Ex Employee
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/12/10
Im an Ex-employee of AGR. It would be nice if you guys would make changes to better care for your Guest, rather then upset them, the Mini bars and Tv's, Come on, 1990 tv's?????? And how about treating the employees better, and stop cutting your staff down. How you gonna run a resort with little or no house keeping? Get it together you guys.

Not So Grand
By TeamGinAZ, 7/20/10
My wife and I are locals and decided for a family getaway to a local resort that offered kid friendly pools. Overall, there were some things we liked with the Arizona Grand Resort, but others where we were very disappointed. It did not meet our expectations. ROOMS Paid $182 for a “Resort Suite King” which we felt was overpriced for the size of the room. The bed was very comfortable and plush. The TVs are very outdated, a high quality resort should have flat screen, not 20 year old 19” TVs! How shameful. Also, be sure to request a room with a view; our view overlooked the parking lot. We were also disappointed that the rooms did not offer a microwave or refrigerator, which was a problem because our son has special dietary needs. Called the front desk, but they were out of “medical refrigerators”. We should have checked the website more carefully, I suppose. WATERPARK The mandatory $30 resorty fee includes entrance to the Oasis waterpark, which we all enjoyed. There are several different pools and even one for toddlers which was nice. There were plenty of places to sit and lounge, but on weekends it can fill up fast. By noon, all of the inner tubes were gone and in use. FOOD Tried the room service. Service was quick and unfortunately that is the only positive thing I can say. The pizza tasted like it was a frozen pizza, chips and salsa had no flavor, and even the can soda was flat (it was set to expire that month). The food at the Oasis pool is also mediocre. SERVICE/ CLEANINESS The front desk was friendly, and most others as well. However, called guest services to request a blanket for the pull-out bed and received voice mail. We left several messages and never did receive a blanket that night! It came the next morning though. Rooms and the grounds were clean, but two of the side pools (that are not part of the Oasis waterpark) were dirty. Trash and dirty towels abounded everywhere. Overall, we would certainly NOT recommend this resort. It failed miserably when comparing it to other resorts we have stayed at in the Phoenix area.

Not 4 Star
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/5/10
Stayed there last weekend for my birthday. I had a spa treatment which was nice but the spa itself was unimpressive. The service was not four star service and the facilities were not four star facilities. My friend and I were hanging out at the Water Park and just as we were getting settled, there was an announcement over the loud speaker indicating that the park would be closing in 15 minutes. It was 4:45 and the sun had not even gone down yet. My children joined me later that evening and we went to the Water Park the following morning. They had a lot of fun but the Water Park is the nicest part of the entire resort. Typically in a four star hotel there is a resort pool atmosphere where you can order a variety of food, the menu at the AZ Grand was hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries (not exactly resort food). By the end of the trip my friend and I had nicknamed the resort, “the get it yourself hotel.” I had a good massage so I might return for another massage but I will not stay here again. If you want a four star hotel in the valley, go to the Camelback Inn where the staff cater to their guests.

Watch out for the extras
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/28/09
I checked in for a conference last week with a trade association, the price seemed a bit high for this type of place but I figured I would be on-site. I didn't know about the $30 "resort fee" tacked on daily. Supposedly it covers internet access, parking and the health-club. When I checked out I pointed out that I only accessed the internet at the business center, didn't have a car and went running around the property since the health club was so far away. Didn't matter and it didn't make it better when I saw the guy checking out next to me pay $15 for the same so-called resort fee (and he was complaining too)! I wonder if they low-ball rates with business groups and then make up the difference with higher "gotchas?" Anyway, I'll pass on this "value" next time I am in Phoenix. It's not bad, just not worth the price unless you really use the health club and water park a lot. And I suggested to my trade associatin that they do the same thing next time they are looking for a location for their annual conference.

avoid
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/3/09
Avoid this resort at all costs. From the very beginning of our stay the service was very poor, often we felt that we were intruding upon their time. Most standing around and not inquiring to the questions and needs of the guests. We booked a suite, but were given a regular room. When we inquired to the front desk, they gave excuse after excuse on why we did not receive what we had requested and paid for. We gave up our request for a change and settled for a very cramped room. The pools were disappointing, and the water park opened at 11:00 and closed at 4:00, regardless of the 400 plus guests who were at the pool with a temp. of 108 degrees! Then they piped in high frequency noise to disperse the guests, similar to what you would find at a riot to break up rowdy attendees. We felt as if we were in a third world country acting as criminals. We will not stay here again. The only plus was Jody in the pro-shop, she was wonderful. The golf course was a plus too. The resort manager needs to get a grip on his staff and remind them that repeat business is so important and word of mouth of poor and disappointing experiences at a resort travels quickly. We have told numerous friends to look elsewhere to stay while in the beautiful city of Phoenix.

A Returning HAPPY Family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/10/09
The staff was great in accommidations and request at the Gym and Tennis court accomadations away from the Grand, plus with suggestions of other fun in the Pheonix area. This is a GREAT PLACE for the JR AND H.S. and college kids with parents..They can work out/swim/tennis/ raquet ball or just chill out around the resort plus it is all included in the $..(CHEAPER THAN SIX FLAGS PARKS) We had a $50 daily credit to use toward food or golf ..This was our second return we hope to come again. Do go to nearby Oregano's Pizza and Crackerjacks mini golf !!! We enjoyed our week!!!

i will never stay at this hotel again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/09
I dont think it is safe for my children to swim at the water park. When some of the life gaurds were not able to answer a question consistantly I spoke to one of the pool security gaurds. When I asked him why his staff could not answer a simple question for me his response was, and I quote, Ma'm these are just 16 and 17 year old kids.!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me??? These are the people you put trust in to watch over hundreds of children! I was shocked we immediately left the hotel and went to a different one. Another reason that we left was because our room smelled like raw sewage!!!

Great Hotel
By sarah S, 6/29/09
My family usually veers away from high class hotels but the waterpark service and overall enjoyment was worth it. The mexican restraunt was great and not to far from the hotel are some other great restraunts. Service was superb we had a problem with our room and so we recieved another room no questions asked. Waterpark was awsome i suggest to not wear a bikini and instead try boardshorts and a t-shirt for the waterslides. The aarizona mills mall is about 5 minutes driving time away and has great shopping. I would recomend it to others even though it is pricey but you can get good prices off of expedia.
