Nice hotel, varying rooms.

My wife & I stayed here 3 nights in March '04. We made our reservations through Hotwire and got a great rate ($72/n.) Unfortunately, we had a smoking, 2-double bed room. Smoking was not a problem as it didn't reek of smoke, but the double beds were too small for us to share one.
The hotel is sprawled over a sizable piece of property. There are 12 2- and 3-story buildings with rooms on both sides. All the rooms open to the outside, motel-style. In the middle of the buildings, is a wonderful courtyard/pool area. The grounds are very nice! The pool is large and the landscape is well manicured. The interior rooms would be far superior to the exterior rooms, like the one we had.
The room numbers have the floor in the first digit, the building in the next two and the room number in the last digit, as there are 10 rooms per floor per building. It appears that the odd-numbered rooms face the interior and the even ones to the parking lots.
Buildings 3-8 line the west side and very near I-17. Our room was here and was a bit noisy, although not too bad in the bedroom. I would try to avoid the even numbered rooms in those buildings.
The rooms were nice and fairly clean, though a bit below the standard for most Embassy Suites. The only issue with our room was that the air vents were very dirty, covered in mildew and dust.
The service was adequate, though we were disappointed they weren't more helpful in accommodating our room change request. The lobby is nice, with the restaurant making up part of it. We only used it for the free breakfast buffet (which made this an even bigger bargain.) The breakfast was pretty good, along the lines of other Embassy Suites, which is better than most free breakfasts.
Overall, we were satisfied with our accommodations, especially with the rate we got. I think rooms normally run $99 - $130. I would recommend this hotel, if you can get one of their better rooms.
