Hinds Victorian Guest House, Santa Cruz

This place is a joke. The worst place ever. The blankets smelled like they hadn't been washed in years, the carpet was sticky and the curtains were yellow stained. The bathroom smelled musty. I couldn't lay in the sheets so I laid towels down so I didn't have to lay on the sheets. Gross do not stay there. Pay the extra money and sleep in comfort.

I am totally mystified by the first reviewer's comment - he/she must have confused the Hinds House with some place else. I stayed there for two weeks and the place is fantastic. The house is huge, the rooms are extremely pleasant and comfortable, including the large reception rooms and kitchen. The facilities are excellent and the location is a dream - three blocks from Pacific Avenue and two minutes from the highway entrance. You even get a parking permit for the whole time you're there. Value for money is exemplary and the hospitality and helpfulness from Brion, the owner, could hardly be better. I recommend this place without reservation to anyone visiting the Santa Cruz area.

The Hinds House is a wonderful place to be if you need an extended stay in Santa Cruz. I don't know where the last reveiewer stayed but I found the place to be beautiful, clean, comfortable, well maintained and stocked full of everything I needed while I relocated to Santa Cruz. The weekly rates are some of the best in town, yet the location and amenities are way above anything else I came across. The place has a European flavor to it and walking everywhere (it is three blocks from the center of town) was a great introduction to the city. The folks here know what they are doing and they have created a perfect accommodation for longer term travelers.

Stayed gere one week and I still can't beleive how lucky I was to find it. The rooms are beautiful. The whole house is perfectly maintained and very clean. This is a place for weekly stays only (hence the good prices). You can't stay for a night or two. The kitchen facilities are better than at my own home. The other guests were delightful (many from Europe). Most rooms have a bathroom down the hall. A couple rooms have private baths. Mine was a small room on the third floor with bath down the hall for $360 per week. The management is so helpful. There are guides written by the owners in each room that tell all the guests about where to go and what restaurants to eat at. Three blocks from the place is the center of downtown with shops and restaurants. I saved a bunch by cooking at the Hinds House. This place made my week-long stay for a relocation so so easy.
