Description

Chiang Dao Nest Mini-Resort is situated in a very beautiful, peaceful, mountainous area, 80km North of Chiang Mai.It comprises ten comfortably furnished bamboo bungalows, all with amazing mountain views. We have ten bungalows (chalets / cabins / huts) with private attached ensuite facilities (hot shower / toilet). Recently added free broadband wireless internet / wifi(when it works!)Each bungalow sleeps two people. Our room prices are the same if there is 1 or 2 people staying. To clear up any confusion ...Double Bed Private Ensuites - have one large double bed which can sleep 2 people and private ensuite toilet attached and hot shower. Twin Private - has two single beds which can sleep 2 people, 1 person in each bed, and private ensuite toilet attached and hot shower. Chiang Dao Nest Mini-Resort opened on November 8th 2002 under Thai and English management. Wicha Cavaliero (Thai) is a professional chef, who trained for three years in England, working and training in a number of quality fusion restaurants. Stuart Cavaliero (English) has a background in retail management and more recently internet work. Chiang Dao Nest Mini-Resort restaurant has a different menu every night. Wicha, our chef uses local produce, in season, from hilltribe farmers around Chiang Dao to create fusion dishes, a mixture of Thai delicacies and European cuisine, the quality of which is normally reserved for five star hotel dining. Vegetarians are catered for. We also offer a good selection of wines. We can arrange trekking and tours in the area. Elephant camps and bamboo rafting opportunities are nearby, which we can also arrange. Other activities available locally include cycling, hiking, nature, temples, caves and just simply relaxing. Chiang Dao is increasingly becoming recognised as an important birding area. It plays host to over 300 species. Chiang Dao Nest is situated in the middle of a good birding area. We can arrange travel to other nearby birding spots, too. Chiang Dao Nest Trekking has a range of private and group trekking options to appeal to all tastes, timescales and abilities. We regularly send small groups to scale the peak of Doi Luang Chiang Dao, at 2245m Thailands third highest mountain. We also have very close links with local hilltribe villages and can offer group and private treks, which can include elephant rides and bamboo rafting. We aim to attract people who enjoy a quiet place, off the beaten track and surrounded by nature. They will be happy with simple, clean, comfortable accommodation but will enjoy and value good food.

The Best
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/07
The best place to relax in northern Thailand. The food is spectacular, especially when you realize you are in the woods. Wicha and Stuart will treat you as though you are in a 5 start hotel. We return as often as possible.

Fantastic Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/5/07
Having returned to Denmark from a 3-week stay in Thailand, we have already decided that our stay at Chiang Dao Nest and the trek organised by Wicha and Stuart was the best and most unforgettable part of our days in Thailand and we will undoubtedly return some day. We were stunned by the beautiful surroundings, the friendly and helpful staff (who seemed to think: Just tell us what you want, we will see what we can do), the cleanliness everywhere, the good food and the many possibilities of trekkings and tours. Don't miss it!

Great food & service in stunning mountain location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/2/06
We booked a 3 day / 2-night trek with a night's stay afterwards. We wished we'd stayed longer. The trek - very well organised, with extremely helpful and efficient guides. The trek is strenuous, involving steep sometimes slippery mud tracks, wading rivers, and staying in fairly basic village accomodation. If you're adventurous, you'll love it (we did). The hotel - beautifully simple accomodation, clean and well thought-out rooms. The mountain location could not be better. And the highlight? The FOOD. It was the best food we ate in Thailand. And we ate very well in Thailand (hard not to). Fantastic, friendly, helpful, staff. This place is a gem, and well worth the visit.

Surprisingly exceeded expectations
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/10/06
This was our "roughing it" part of our trip. It turned out to be the finest food we tasted. Both 'Nest 1 and 2 excelled in European and Thai Cuisine respectively. Stunning location(s) too. An overnight trek was much more of an adventure than we had imagined. Highly memorable. Cannot imagine many would be disappointed with a night or two here.

Relaxation
By Jim, 4/2/06
The food was amazing at both The Nest and Nest 2. It at times took a while to prepare, but we were in no hurry. We were on vacation after all. Huts were clean and above my expectation which says a lot as I thing that I have very high expectations in regard to cleanliness. We traveled with a one and four year old and they did great. I do recommend that if you are traveling with children you try to stay at Nest 1. Stewart and Wicha have it more acclimated for children. If you will be staying at Nest 1 with children book a room that doesn't have the 6 foot drop down shower and toilet. Scenery is beautiful and a great place to relax and recoup for several days. Read the fine print on the tours and determine how much walking will be involved if you have small children. The one hour hike after the elephant ride was not all that enjoyable with our four year old. If you have flexibility in your travel on Tuesday mornings there is a weekly market that you can take advantage of for some great buys. Arrange pick-up with the owners before you leave so that somebody will be waiting for you at the airport in Chang Mai as most Taxi drivers don't know where the Nest is.

Great food, Great owners, Great views
By LaraC, 8/12/05
Negatives first: beds were extremely hard, but I found that to be true everywhere in Thailand. Cabins/huts have woven grass or reed walls, so they got quite cold since it was December in the mountains. Food service was very slow because there was only the one chef. These things pale in comparison to the positives: Indoor plumbing with hot showers, yet you're right on the mountain and can wake up to lovely sunrise views. The temple just down the road was perfect for sunrises. GREAT food. Owners organized our transportation, including stops in Chaing Mai at temples and for shopping. Also organized an elephant ride/bamboo raft ride. Most of the guides and drivers spoke little or no english but everything worked without a hitch, and I don't expect people to always speak english. We're visiting them, after all. Everyone was honest and friendly. Highly recommend it to budget travelers and first-time visitors to Thailand (which we were).

One day Hilltribe Tour
The guide is not fluent in English. They do not provide any information about the tribes. You are by yourself in the village and only thing you will see is a market that they force you to buy something.

I want to be there now!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/29/05
Extremely good. Way above our expectations. We were prepared for basic and spartan, but got comfort. Recommended for all. Friendly non-fussy service, and spectacularly beautiful and peaceful location. Antidote to life in a city.

Too good!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/20/05
This really was a highlight of our trip in Asia. It really did feel like the perfect combination of everything. Wicha is a fantastic chef. The rooms are simple but tasteful, clean and comfortable. The hot showers are really hot! The trek we went on was arranged by Chiang Dao Nest and was one of the most memorablke and special experiences of our entire year of travelling.
