Wingate by Wyndham West Monroe, West Monroe

Had to call multiple times when trying to inquire about a reservation; I'll challenge anyone to just TRY talking to a real person without imediately being slammed on the "can you hold please" routine. Have stayed here before, but never again; they've lost my business forever with this crummy service attitude. The irony is that they could care less.........................

-Housekeeping was obnoxious, loud, arguementative, rude, and unprofessional -Housekeeping supervisor was dismissive and absolutely no help -Overall quality of the hotel was horrible. It appeared as though it was not maintained...ever -Breakfast was horrible -Shower water turned hot to cold back to hot on its own over and over -Rooms smell like sewerage so bad a friend got dizzy -The staff advised they were completely out of washclothes -Pillows obviously old and lumpy -Lamps were dusty, falling apart, and had burns on them -Ashes were located on top of the nearly broken air conditioner in a non-smoking room -Towels smelled like mildew See my narrative of the stay on any other hotel review website. I was unable to post it here due to the size.

Though the staff were professional and friendly, the overall quality of the -hotel itself is, in my opinion, sub-par. The room I was in had a very musty/mildew type odor. The lampshade had burn marks, the plush chair in the room had a cirgarette burn and a thick coating of dust covered it and the ottoman! The mattresses are too soft with little support left, they are outdated and need to be replaced. The carpet was pretty grubby looking as well, needing a good cleaning and I do wonder if that could have been the cause of the horrible smell! There is just an overall shabbiness to the hotel that one does not expect when paying $120/night for the room. Most hotels have flat panel TV's at this point, this hotel does not. Though they offer free wireless, good luck, as when I tried to use it I would get a message that the "bandwidth limit had been exceeded" and the signal, when staying on the 3rd floor, is nearly non-existant. The in room toiletries were changed out daily with what appeared to be a hodge-podge of leftovers perhaps obtained through some type of clearance warehouse. The wrappers on the bar soap appeared to have been water damaged at some point before being placed in my room for use. (Gross!) I am a business traveller and usually stay at Hilton properties, and will be staying at one upon my return to the Monroe area. If this is what Wyndham properties are like, I will not be choosing to stay with them when travelling in the future.

I have seen first hand the majority of the hotels in the West Monroe area and wingate is by far the best. The beds are very clean, and the rooms look almost unused. I expecially loved the indoor pool, as most hotels in the area have outdoor pools closed for the season. Very comfortable hotel.

I started staying at the Wingate in the spring of 2007 because I have family in the area. At first the hotel was fine - clean and quiet. However, I just returned from my 5th stay at the hotel and things have really changed in the past year. The rooms seem dirty and I'm not sure that the sheets on my bed were changed before my arrival. The in-room coffee maker contained black mold and obviously had not been cleaned in weeks. I refused to walk on the carpet without my shoes and the sofa really creeped me out. The guests used to be mostly families and business people but now they tend to be younger and more interested in partying. I had to call the front desk 3 times about a party in the next room that started around midnight. There were some really dicey people staying there. There are newer hotels in the area that I will try next. For the money, I can do better than the Wingate.
