Bad staying experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/03/09
The kitchen was durty, left over food in the sink drain, the refrigerator apparently was never clean inside, the bathrooms were fairly kept clean, total disrespect on the curfew hours, some people kept talking loud inside their room and walking all over the place, as a matter of fact the room next door to mine was having a party. Regarding the staff only one member was friendly, the others were not welcoming at all and one would sit around flirting with the guests. If you are planning to go to Maui and engage on early cool activities the place has to offer, this is not the place for you to stay. You will not get the proper rest and will be exausted the next day from all the noise and lack of concern from this hostel. The price, for $20.00 more a day, I could have stayed in another place.

Been going to NorthShore Inn since mid-1990s
By Christopher, 09/23/09
NorthShore Inn I have been going to since 1993, never had a problem there, and it always has been cleaned when I had stayed, this hostel has been great for me, meeting so many new people from around the world. It is a calm place in the evening time. During the 1990's it was a party place, now is more relaxed like most places these days. I have never seen any undesirables outside or inside. I have been on all the Hawaiian Island and stayed in hostels, NorthShore Inn was the best one. Remember this, you are only there to shower and sleep, there is so many things to do on Maui...I will continue to stay at NorthShore Inn everytime I visit Maui.

great place to stay on a budget
By Tki, 05/06/09
I have stayed in many hostels, and i have to say this one is very clean. The staff was very helpful and respectful. Maui is an expensive place, so saving money on a room is a must-you are only there to sleep! We rented a car (a must if you want to see most of the island) so this location was great. It was nice to stay in a smaller town away from all the resorts and major tourist places. The hostel was clean and welcoming, we saw a few ants but nothing unexpected. (a friend of mine staying in a private condo for a lot more money had a cockroach on the kitchen counter-so really how could i complain) We had a private room which we felt very safe in, although the traffic was somewhat annoying in the morning-but ear plugs solved that! I would definitely stay here again. People need to remember this is a hostel-not a 5star resort! staying in a private room with shared bathroom and kitchen cost us $65USD a night-a hotel would have ran us a minimum of 120USD (1 1/2 star) or more likely upwards of $250 a night for a "nice" hotel-condos etc have cleaning fees.... I think Northshore was well worth the money.

The friendliest hostel I've ever stayed at!
By awwyeah, 02/21/09
The northshore hostel on maui was extremely clean. Very helpful staff! Garrett at the front desk really went out of his way to give me insight on different activities and directions around the island. The common areas were set up great for meeting people. I met a couple from Italy that let my friend and I share a ride to Hana. What a beautiful drive! The manager, Scott I believe his name was, really made you feel at home by his kindness and helpful attitude. Maui was a great island and my stay at the northshore hostel made it perfect. I look forward to the possibility of coming back next year or maybe a quick trip in the summer. Thanks northshore! You guys rock! - LeLand (Virginia Beach, VI)

By BILLW, 02/23/07
If this is the place I knew on Vineyard by a different name, this was and may still be a drug infested area. Poverty level clientel and cheap. But if cheap is what you need, then go for it. But becareful in/on this area.

great price -good people
By Brian, 12/19/06
The North Shore Inn...Well..yea..it's in the poor side of town, but..the staff is great..espicially Mr. ED who manages the place. It's cheap..you can get a private room, which has a small refridgerator in it. Also, has a community kitchen which can prepare your own food, also there is food extra in the kitchen like cocoa, coffee, Internet service ..free. A lot of college kids go there. Windsurfing VERY POPULAR.. Close to anything..McDonald's right around the corner..Near Lihaina..good for diving. NO CURFUE..!!!! Rules are lax..Washer and dryer available..I've been there 3 times..!! Not bad if you're on a budget, or a student. A lot of Austrailian Blondies come here to windsurf..They have dorms and private rooms available.. If you go out and play all day, this is just the perfect place to crash. 2 community bathrooms available, with showers. As I said..FREE INTERNET.. Community living room with cable.. Totally Groovey if your not a rich snob. Regards.. B. Mohr

It has its good points overall.
By mendezjohn, 11/24/06
Liked: staff members Lorrie & Patricia, the closeness to airport and the affordability. Disliked: The nearby rooster & crying dog that make noise ALL NIGHT! I stayed in both private and dorm rooms. I went surfing w/ another non-local guest. However, some of the more local guests are sketchy.

RUN from this hostel...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/13/06
The only positive point might be the location, but be aware, it's more a center point than a a hostel close to everything. You will need a car... The kitchen is a mess 24/7. Dirty dishes all over the counter top... but the bugs like it! Lots of ants on that counter top. I totally agree with the person who wrote a review saying "this place is a dump". when I got my room that the first thing I did, but the garbarge of the people before me out, it did stink too bad. And there was once again ants around the trash can. Disgusting... There is no curfew. People stay up late and are noisy. I was there for 4 days... I found myself really lucky to be busy enough, to be out during the day and coming back only at night. My recommendation... RUN from this hostel.
