Won't Go Back--Service STANK!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/18/09
The rooms are great and the location is great; HOWEVER, the service really stinks. I was there on a business trip and booked Inn at the Ballpark for its proximity to the George R. Brown Convention Center. They apparently have only 1 shuttle driver at a time. The first morning I had to walk, in a complete dress suit, fifteen minutes to the GRB because the driver was in a meeting. Of course, it was already in the mid 90s at 9 a.m. when I needed to get to the GRB for my meetings. So I arrived all sweaty and hot.
The second morning I had requested a 6:00 a.m. wakeup call--it came in at 6:20, without any apology for being late.
Then, there were NO shuttles available to take me to my meetings. The hotel ended up using the Lincoln Town Car to transport 3 people at a time to the GRB.
I had also requested to get my car out of valet parking (the only parking available) at 7 a.m. so I could load my luggage before heading off to my meetings. At 7:30, after noticing that 2 other cars had been retrieved, I asked the front desk to retreive my car once again. My car finally arrived at 7:35.
On the note of the valet parking--they basically take your car to an open-air parking area behind the hotel--there is no fence, no barriers, just a simple curb between the parking lot and the street--in Downtown Houston.
I received no apologies from the staff or management for the lack of shuttle service or for the other items mentioned. If you are there on vacation and have plenty of time, then it would be fine. But since the only close attraction is Minutemaid Park, unless you're a baseball fan, I see no other reason to stay at this location. I will not stay there again. When the next convention goes to the GRB, I'll be at the Hilton (attached to the GRB) or at the DoubleTree.
