I did not check reviews before my stay...wish I would have. I did get a clean room and there where people everywhere working and cleaning up the place. I inquired and learned that the motel is under new management. I guess soon to be new owners also. The gals at the front desk where nice and accomodating. I had trouble with my phone and they brought in a different one right away. By reading the previous reviews I am happy that I did not experience this Phil character. I only need to stay one night due to weather. I know that if ever again I am forced to stay in Jamestown I will look forward to see the changes the new managers/ owners will bring.
The owner Phil is the most beligerent man I've ever had the misfortune to run across. I made res. 1 year in advance as I had for several years before when the motel was owned by another person. When we arrived at 9:30 Am went into the office area to inquire about our room. Fisrt he said he had never heard of us when we looked over the desk at his reservation book it had our names down for a kitchenette room, as we had prepaired all our meals for 9 day stay during hunting season. We had to argue with him for all most 20 minutes to get our room. After that we never heard or saw him again. So we thought we'll try it again last year. Guess what same story no room to be had. Again we had prepaired all our meals ahead of time and he told us we could not get a room with a kitchenette. After some very tense moments he asked me to step outside which at that point I was glad to oblige him. He walked out of the back office door with a handgun under a pillow and threatened me with it. Never I mean never even think about staying at the persons motel, your life may be at risk. The rooms are filthy rarely get vacuumed and the service STINKS. Plus the Owner Phil is or must be bipolar or something. We ended up staying at the Lake View cottages outside of town. Brand new and a very nice place.
To start off the owner claimed I gave him the wrong date of our stay but luckily (or unluckily in our case) he had open rooms for us to stay in. Don't be fooled by the inexpensive rooms and nice location of this motel. Our rooms were disgusting (black mildew around our tub, dirty sock and old food found in our room, a bed wasn't made, TV's didn't work, outdoor pool I wouldn't let my dog swim in, Etc.) but knowing all other hotels were full we had to stay. There was a lounge area for our team to sit in, again disgusting, and while we were there someone broke into our room and stole our luggage bags. This is the 2nd time it has happened (exact same room #37) at this hotel. The hotel owner claimed the previous robbery it was a long time ago and he changed the door since then. Looking at how old our door was we are pretty sure he did not change the door.
The owner is strange and not in a good way. He was argumentative, irritable and had poor customer service.
I would not recommend a family to stay here as there were several other strange people lurking around the hotel. So my recommendation is that if there are no other hotel rooms for you to stay in, sleep in your car before you stay at the Ranch House.
Two months prior to my stay, I had reserved a room with my credit card for 3 nights. As I had travelled quite a distance, I arrived at 10:15 pm thinking I was secure with my reservation because it was prepaid with my credit card. WRONG! The owner/manager who waited on me was very rude in telling me I no longer had a room and he had given it to someone else because I had not arrived by 10:30 pm. I informed him that it wasn't yet 10:30 and that he had no right giving it to someone else since I had prepaid it with my credit card. He began yelling at me and told me he had no rooms available and I should have called earlier and told him I was coming in. He was very rude and belligerent, blaming his error on me, the customer. This behavior went on for approximately 10 minutes before he told me there was another motel that might have a room available. I thanked him and told him I had arranged for a very important FedEx package to arrive at his motel in the morning as I needed it for a business meeting that same day. He began screaming at me again, asking why I would have it sent to his motel. I told him that I was expecting to stay there because I had reservations for 3 days. He was very angry that he was being asked to accept this package on my behalf. He did accept it for me but the next day when I called to find out if it had come in, he became very angry and said he had never heard of me and why would someone have a package sent to his motel when I wasn't even staying there! I picked up my package and told him that I expected my credit card to be reimbursed for the amount he had charged me for the reservation. He was very unhappy about it and let me know about it. Eventually, he wrote me a check for the amount. I would advise some serious caution dealing with this motel.
