Don't do it!!!
By ,
Where do I even begin....We were very disappointed with this hotel. The food was absolutely brutal. The same selection everyday. We pretty much ate bread for the 3 days we stayed there until we asked to switch hotels because we were so disappointed. The service was really bad as well. It's supposed to be an all-inclusive hotel and there was only one bar open at a time. We had to go for quite a jont just to find an open bar. The staff, not so friendly at those bars either. There would be bartenders behind the bar getting ready to open and would refuse to serve you until exactly 11:00 or whenever the bar opened...Don't stand around at the bar then... And children everywhere!! Don't believe your travel agent when she tells you that there are hardly any children! The pool was full of them at all times. Fun, fun...The guest services staff were so unfriendly, I was shocked. I have been to several hotels in my time and have never been so disappointed. Nothing went right there. We had spoken to several other people around us and they seemed just as disgruntled. Very disappointing for a hotel that claims it is 4.5 star. More like a 2 star. I think the only positive thing I can say about this hotel was that it was clean. Unfortunately there a lot of other hotels that are clean as well and probably have a lot more to offer. Don't do it! Trust me....

Poor Service
By ,
The Reef Playacar is a beautiful resort and a good location; however, the service is horrible. Its all inclusive, but you wait 5-10 minutes for a drink and sometimes longer. I would not stay there again.

The Nightmare At The Reef Playa car
By ,
My bestfriend and I just got back from 5 night stay at this horrible place they call a resort! The first thing that happened when we got to our room, the A/C wouldn't even turn on! We called the front desk, and after an hour wait in the heat for someone to come to our room we walked back to front desk! We were given another room, in which the air wasn't working properly!! We went to the new walmart bought a fan, ice chest( the resort dosen't have an ice machine!!) spent $88.00 dollars trying to prepare ourselves for hellish week! The food is gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyday it looks the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!closes early, 8pm. The shows, aren't really shows at all!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the worst time I have ever had!!!!!! Finally the third move, we got air!!!!!!!!! But when maid service came to do our room, they stupidly turned it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There isn't enough staff to man the place, the bartender, is the bus boy, the snack bar boy, and towel boy!!! Don't go to the REEF!!!!!!!!!!!!! It should only be a 1 star resort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing they have going for them is the beach!!!!

would never go back
By ,
The reef was not what my husband and I expected at all, we were not greeted at our arrival and overall the services was awful. This is the one place where alchol is free but not water. The food was the same everyday and half of the drinks taste like soap. Some of the workers were rude and not helpful. We book four months in advance and asked for a king size bed, but instead got two full beds. Not the best way to spend your anniversary.

This was our first all inclusive experience. It was wonderful. Don't miss the Italian Restaurant. It was the best. Wouldn't change anything if I get to go again.

Wilma Survivors
By ,
The Reef Resort is the best place to be especially during Hurricane Season. Although we were in the Theatre for three days, we did not miss a meal. I don't mean beans and rice, I mean a full course meal breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff was awesome, especially Felipe, Henry, Feliciano, Humberto, Chuy and Leslie. These guys made our trip very pleasurable and comforting even after Wilma. We enjoyed meeting several people all over the world. Even though we were stuck there 5 days extra due to Wilma, we plan to visit the resort in May of next year! VIP Toni and Andy from Cape Cod and Jim and Carrie from Ohio...hope to see ya soon!!!

I write this from the hotel lobby.
By ,
I have to start by saying that I think the hotel, itself is a nice looking place. The grounds are adequate and somewhat clean. The setting is a jungle setting and the pictures you see on the website are accurate. I do have to say, though, that I would not come back here for the simple reason that I was very ill from what I can only think was the food. I have a pretty strong constitution and can pretty much eat anything, but I was so sick for a couple of days, that I really would reccommend to tay clear of this place. The Staff was pretty friendly, with the exception of Brendon or Brandon (what ever his name was). He is the concierge and nothing more than a nag to recruit people to sitin on the time share presentation. The food was rather bland and not very good. The service was average. Not too good or too bad. I have to say if you are coming to Playa Del Carmen, stay somewhere else. There are a vast number of resorts that I have heard great things about.

Will not go back
By ,
Hotel very nice. But there was no hot water in the sink in bathroom and the shower turned off when useing it and when it rained the bathroom leaked. There was no room service. the food was ok not very much variety and if you wanted something to eat late at night all there was, was hot dogs and hambergers.

The staff at the front desk is very rude, gave us the wrong room, the room they moved us to had a broken airconditioner, the parasailing trip they said was 65.00 they tried to charge me 85.00 for at front desk, the food at the buffet was not good. The two restrauants were good but thats about all that was
