Very over rated hotel and expensive
I stayed in this hotel for 13 nights (and over $2k in total costs) so I know this hotel almost as well as my own home now:-). I obtained a corporate rate from my client and despite the discounted price, I can without hesitation state that this hotel does not offer good value in Panama. Those that say it does have not checked out other hotels or are new to hotel lodging, period. My corporate of 170, inclusive of taxes, was cheaper than the normal rates that exceed 220. After the first 3 nights at the hotel the noise from the partying neighbors was so loud (the walls are thin) that I complained and was readying my move into a neighboring hotel. After enough complaints I got upgraded to a suite which was huge, which convinced me to stay put. I still had the same problems of thin walls and flooring. The cheap tile flooring and furnishings reminded me of a Costa Rican motel. I went to peek inside other rooms to make sure that it wasn't just my room and confirmed that all rooms were the same.
My initial impressions of my rooms (both) were they were really dated, thin walls and floors (I could hear the upstairs room dropping coins), very old low quality budget furniture. There was a strong smell of chlorine from the cleaning solutions they used to clean the floor the lasted for hours.
The suite was huge but was situated on a lower floor (14 th) which was noisy each morning from the traffic below. Starting from just before 7 am I could hear incessant honking for 2 to 3 hours from the below highway. Panamanians honk all the time and this was horrible in the morning as I got up at the time the honking started. The view from my room was amazing particularly in the morning watching the highway below and seeing first hand the traffic chaos below.
The sofa I had was so soft I could swear it was at least 20 years old. It's similar to the sofa somebody puts into a student rental property not a 4 star hotel. Once you sit on it you sink like quicksand as the supports do not exist The bed was fine but the windows are thin thus the traffic noise is bad.
The pool area is very small and the pool is very small. The DJ there plays his music very very loud and it's always salsa. I noticed many guests could not talk while the music was playing and left shortly after arrival. It's not a place for guests to relax but for the DJ and his friends to party. The pool staff are always chatting with another and you will never see a smile from them other than when they are joking around with their colleagues. As they are probably not getting paid well, they look totally disinterested in servicing customers paying more in 2 nights than they earn in a month.
The prices of the food and drinks are a bit pricey but standard for hotels in the city The sushi / bar offered decent sushi rolls relative to this part of the world but not world class for sure like one reviewer wrote! I lived in Japan so possibly my sushi standards are possibly high.
