Honestly?
The food and rooms were good, the rooms are not air conditioned that well at all. They were not hot, just very humid. The service on the otherhand, it was okay during our stay, but when we left, my husband left behind two rings in the room and we're getting the run around from the staff. We have attempted to contact the Occidental Customer Care and all we get is a recording.....we've called the resort several times and have been hung up on and blocked. Needless to say, we won't go back to one of Occidental's properties.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
By ,
The rooms are small and VERY HOT. It was much cool outside than it was in our room. Don't bother upgrading, there is no such thing in this hotel-all the rooms are the same. The food was not all that great, nor were the drinks. We had a lizard in our room among other bugs and insects. We checked out the next day and the staff didn't even seem to care. This is not at all what we thought we were getting when we booked 6 nights.

Great Time!!
By ,
The Allegro Playacar is a smaller resort but the staff was all friendly. The food was all good, especially at the Mexican and Italian Restaurants, but even at the buffets there was nothing I ate that I didn't like. The cleaning staff kept everything in great shape. The beds were hard, and the rooms weren't anything amazing with decor but its not like you spend alot of time in the room anyways. It was definitely good for the time we were in them. Its definitely a family resort, but for 20-somethings the nightlife at the resort is lacking. Fast Eddies is small, and theres pool and music and stuff but there was never a big crowd there so we always headed into town during the nights instead, which actually turned out to be the time to shop. Playa del Carmen is close and its no problem getting cabs and you can always have a good time there, the Blue Parrot is fun especially. The beach is smaller but for playing in the water its good, if you want to play beach volley ball we didnt have a problem heading down to a resort down the beach and joining in there. The activities in the pool at the resort were always fun, and the activity staff always had people involved. The Allegro Playacar was a good trip, althought I'm not sure I'd go back there again, only because there are a ton of resorts down there and I think I'd rather give them a try too.

Couldn't ask for better.
By ,
I'm generally a person that doesn't like to sleep away from home. Especially in hotels because half the time they feel icky to me. So when I went on my honeymoon to Mexico I was pleasantly suprised. Now granted I know there is nicer out there, but this place was amazing. The hotel was right on the beach. Since the rooms were grouped into little huts, there wasn't many flights of stairs or waiting for an elevator. It was very convienient to go back and forth to the room. There was also a shopping center just accross from the hotel and also not too far a trip from the downtown shops. The food was great. Even for someone like me who is kind of picky. Granted I didn't like the resturants. But the buffe's and everything more than made up for it. They're all about making the food your way. Overall this hotel was great. It was nice and quiet. So if your a partier it's not for you. Not only would we like to go back, we're planning on it!

Spoiled by the relaxing atmosphere.
By ,
We loved the location. The beach was the most velvety sand I ever walked on. The layout was great everything was just a stroll away. They really thought of everything. The food was great something for everyone. Every meal there was something a little different. The activities such as snorkeling, or wind gliding could of given more of training session, you were kinda thrown out there. I didn't feel confident in the equipment and gave you a panicy feeling and you were all ready out in deep water. The cab service was fun you were just a short drive to shoppiing or the ferry to go to cozemel. Overall it was great.

Excellent Place
The hotel is very nice and the price reflects this of course. The service was great and all of us had a fantastic time. The rooms were kept clean and cool. This is a large resort with plenty for everyone of any age to do. A little more expensive than some of the others but well woth the price.

Don't!!!

Unbelievably hard beds, dark rooms, bugs in rooms, immediate constant relentless pressure to buy a timeshare (disquised as a complementary tour of the property)

Don't go here
By ,
My husband and I recently went on our honeymoon here. we were told it was a 5 star resort but I have to disagree. First off everything looks nice and clean but when it comes to working right it doesnt. The hot food was alway luke warm no matter how many times we said something. Infact they even asked why we wanted hot food when it's hot outside. They also never had hot water. It was luke warm at best and I know we were not the only guest to complain. Also they never came to restock the refrigrator with drinks. the lock box fell off the wall. the ceiling in the bathroom started leaking and flooded the bathroom. the roof was thatched so whenever it was windy outside it blew all the AC out our room. We weren't able to get more bottles of water despite requesting it. Oh and then a storm came and washed away their beach so all that was left were these big sand bags. However on our last day they were trying to pump sand onto the beach. The only good things I can say is that it was a pretty, clean place with friendly people. However the quality of the hotel and thing working properly was poor. I don't recommend this place for anyone wanting a fun, care-free, relaxing time. Oh yea, we couldnt get any money back despite all the problems because we paid in advance and it was all-inclusive.

would recommend to others
By ,
My family has vacationed here on three seperate occasions over the past 12 yrs, starting when our two sons were 9 and 11 and the last trip they were 18 and 20. On ALL trips the accomodations were great, we felt the rooms were comfortable,(one of our favorites is the hammocks on each porch of your hotel room), the staff wonderful. We love this hotel due to it's low key atmosphere, closeness to the town of Playa del Carmen, the fact that the beach is only a few yards past the pool. We felt very safe on each and every visit, we would walk to town in the evenings, returning by cab later. On the last trip our sons took planned trips by the resort into Cancun to experience the night life. We loved the fact that we could leave our belongings on the beach chaises and sail without worrying they would be stolen. I felt there was plenty to eat, TONS of fresh fruits at every meal. Granted, their meat choices aren't what Americans are used to but if anyone leaves the dining room hungry they would have to literally not like ANYTHING to eat. I have recommended this resort to several of my friends, whom are planning a trip to this area in May of 2006.
