Great property, poor service
Comfortable, spacious suites with sitting area, desk with free wired internet, separate kitchen area with extra sink, super clean, great breakfast, pool/workout room/lobby with wireless internet. But there WERE problems, copied from survey Marriott sent me after stay, chronologically:
1) Room smelled like cigarette smoke. Friday night the whole 6th floor was filled with cigarette smoke, and I believe some of it was coming from employee's-only room. We had to put towels under door to keep smoke out daily, esp. on Friday. This was reported and not addressed for hour+.
2) Friday night, children and adults yelling, running, having parties, slamming doors on the whole 6th floor (and elsewhere in hotel). Problem went beyond excessive, not addressed for at least an hour; nothing changed. Went on until after 1 a.m. and early in morning. Hotel filled with cheerleaders, little siblings, and thoughtless parents.
3) We had travel difficulties, which resulted in canceled flights after long day and evening at airport. We did get a room at this property (because of our familiarity with it, Internet/printing, proximity to airport, breakfast, rate, airport shuttle). We had 3 conversations with lobby and they never mentioned that shuttle would be at least 45 minutes' (7-10 minute drive). We were intensely tired (sleepless night, rigorous agenda, several "runs" to plane and through security, etc.). Hotel offered to pay for cab. Airport security summoned one (on the "arrivals" side). Before I report what happened next, be assured that we are not dramatic nor complainers (more likely to be apologetic). The cab ride was intensely dangerous; the driver, I fully believe, had ill intentions for us and I believe completely that our lives were in danger. I am still very shaken from what happened and credit my quick-thinking, clear-headed daughter for carefully redirecting thought process of the driver who eventually brought us to the hotel. I am most upset with this because we did choose this property again in part due to shuttle. I do not exaggerate when I say that our lives were in danger. Lobby staff did reimburse fare, except for generous tip I left driver believing it might help spare our lives, checked us in quickly, was polite but anxious to get rid of us and did not care about what had just happened though we were visibly shaken and upset. In all fairness, they were overwhelmed with children running all over - the place was a zoo.
4) There was no hot water in room. We had to get cleaned up and to bed before an early flight in the morning. Was already late, we hadn't slept the night before, we were going to lose an hour due to setting the clocks ahead. The hot water was repaired late in evening.
5) The Internet would not work. I spent at least 45 minutes trying and asked lobby if there was a problem. There had been no other complaints and she was going to send someone up after they got water problem resolved. I said that I would work on it. I called a number I found for iBahn on card in room and we did troubleshoot problem for 20 minutes. I was then able to resolve some travel issues on line, with 5 minutes to spare to print our boarding passes before business center closed. The connection to the room had to be reset. Lobby kind enough to call the room to see if Internet was working later on.
6) There was still a lot of door slamming late into night, but mainly from floors above and below (we were on the 5th floor). Room was quieter. It may have had something to do with sign I put on table outside of elevators which said "quiet beyond this point, close doors quietly." Wish I thought of it the night before (or that someone had, you never know). This room, however, was not as clean as one from 3 previous nights (spotless!).
