NICE & CONVENIENT...but a few drawbacks...
This hotel is very much close to everything you need to get to in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. I was impressed with the lobby very nicely decorated and keep clean. All the staff was friendly but they were alot of employees standing around chit chatting...Pool was not open..very dissappointing b/c my family was looking forward to swimming since the ocean water was too cold. Breakfast was good every morning. The room was clean except for mirrors and thing that dont get cleaned everyday obiviously. Plus we used some towels and washcloths but they didnt replace them with fresh one after they took ours? Not sure why that is..? But the beds are soo comfy..wish I could take it home. but other than a few things..we enjoyed our stay. Glad we dont pay full price for hotels like most do though.

Dirty and Rude
By Sirucekova, 8/11/08
I arrived very tired from a long drive with a baby and a toddler after taking my family to the room, I went back downstairs to unload my laguage for a 7 day stay. After all the unloading I finally sat down in the room only to find that the carpert was very very dirty it looked like it had not been vacumed in days. The counters where sticky from sugar and I found a shoe under the bed!! I went downstairs to ask if someone could vacum the room, I was told that housekeeping had left for the day. Nobody was willing to vacum the room, so after I had asked for the 3rd time if someone could clean it. I asked for someone to bring the vacum that I would do it myself. They brought 2 vacums that did not work, Im very tired and all I want to do is feed my children yet I had to stop everything and vacum and clean my own room. Plus throw the show left behind by the previus occupant. Needless to say I left the next day. I will never ever stay at this hotel nor wil I ever recond anybody stay there. Dont the staff was not helpful in anyway specially given the fact that I was very tired after a long drive with a 5 month and a 3 year old, and parents out there know what Im talking about. I stayed across town at the Waterside not only where their rooms clean, their staff was amazingly frindly and helpful in every single way. Afetr they heard of what had happend to me, they made sure that my stay there was nothing more than relaxing and it was I recomend this Hotel if you are in that area. The reason why I chose to stay at the Springhill in the 1st place was because of all the wonderful reviews a read about on this very website. It turns out that this is the worse experince Ive had with a hotel.

Great property, poor service
By SippingWineIsGood, 3/13/08
Comfortable, spacious suites with sitting area, desk with free wired internet, separate kitchen area with extra sink, super clean, great breakfast, pool/workout room/lobby with wireless internet. But there WERE problems, copied from survey Marriott sent me after stay, chronologically: 1) Room smelled like cigarette smoke. Friday night the whole 6th floor was filled with cigarette smoke, and I believe some of it was coming from employee's-only room. We had to put towels under door to keep smoke out daily, esp. on Friday. This was reported and not addressed for hour+. 2) Friday night, children and adults yelling, running, having parties, slamming doors on the whole 6th floor (and elsewhere in hotel). Problem went beyond excessive, not addressed for at least an hour; nothing changed. Went on until after 1 a.m. and early in morning. Hotel filled with cheerleaders, little siblings, and thoughtless parents. 3) We had travel difficulties, which resulted in canceled flights after long day and evening at airport. We did get a room at this property (because of our familiarity with it, Internet/printing, proximity to airport, breakfast, rate, airport shuttle). We had 3 conversations with lobby and they never mentioned that shuttle would be at least 45 minutes' (7-10 minute drive). We were intensely tired (sleepless night, rigorous agenda, several "runs" to plane and through security, etc.). Hotel offered to pay for cab. Airport security summoned one (on the "arrivals" side). Before I report what happened next, be assured that we are not dramatic nor complainers (more likely to be apologetic). The cab ride was intensely dangerous; the driver, I fully believe, had ill intentions for us and I believe completely that our lives were in danger. I am still very shaken from what happened and credit my quick-thinking, clear-headed daughter for carefully redirecting thought process of the driver who eventually brought us to the hotel. I am most upset with this because we did choose this property again in part due to shuttle. I do not exaggerate when I say that our lives were in danger. Lobby staff did reimburse fare, except for generous tip I left driver believing it might help spare our lives, checked us in quickly, was polite but anxious to get rid of us and did not care about what had just happened though we were visibly shaken and upset. In all fairness, they were overwhelmed with children running all over - the place was a zoo. 4) There was no hot water in room. We had to get cleaned up and to bed before an early flight in the morning. Was already late, we hadn't slept the night before, we were going to lose an hour due to setting the clocks ahead. The hot water was repaired late in evening. 5) The Internet would not work. I spent at least 45 minutes trying and asked lobby if there was a problem. There had been no other complaints and she was going to send someone up after they got water problem resolved. I said that I would work on it. I called a number I found for iBahn on card in room and we did troubleshoot problem for 20 minutes. I was then able to resolve some travel issues on line, with 5 minutes to spare to print our boarding passes before business center closed. The connection to the room had to be reset. Lobby kind enough to call the room to see if Internet was working later on. 6) There was still a lot of door slamming late into night, but mainly from floors above and below (we were on the 5th floor). Room was quieter. It may have had something to do with sign I put on table outside of elevators which said "quiet beyond this point, close doors quietly." Wish I thought of it the night before (or that someone had, you never know). This room, however, was not as clean as one from 3 previous nights (spotless!).

Great!

Great! Very clean room and good hot free breakfast. Reasonable rate. I also like the quiet fridge in the room. I will certainly come back. A great place to stay.

Extra-ordinary
By Tracy, 5/18/06
I had the most wonderful experience at this hotel. I recommend it to any one. I will stay at this Marriott whenever I am on the East coast. I will be testing Marriott's across the country with this hotel as my comparison.
