Loved this little hotel
By Tina, 7/23/08
The Oceanside Hotel is on a little quiet side street behind the famous Sylvia Hotel. Not a block away is the Sunset Beach of English Bay, and a lovely entrance to Stanley Park. A half-block in the other direction is one of the busy, vibrant, commercial streets of the neighborhood, with excellent restaurants, produce markets, and all the amenities you could want. It's a terrific place to start a bike or walking day in Stanley Park (we spent all of one day there). Though the Oceanside has wireless internet throughout, we hadn't brought our laptop; it was cheap and easy to check e-mail at a store called "My Office" less than a block away. The rooms are not fancy, but clean and spacious and comfortable. For $150/night in one of this expensive city's most expensive neighborhoods, we had a bedroom with a firm queen bed, windows that opened to the ocean breeze, a living room with TV/cable and more breezy windows, a full private bathroom with great water pressure, a phone with free access for local and calling card calls (and also featuring voice mail), and a little kitchenette and table where we kept privisions refrigerated and had our breakfast each day. The walking and biking paths in the direction of the big bridge are extensive; we went to "Bard on the Beach" (to see a great production on King Lear) and walked the two miles back that night, a lovely experience. The gentlemen staffing the front desk (24 hrs/day) were friendly and knowledgeable. They securely stashed our luggage for several hours on checkout day. One thing to be aware of --- there's no elevator in this 3-story hotel. If you can't or don't want to climb stairs and take your bags upstairs yourself, ask for a room on the ground floor. This hotel is a little jewel and a great value. We hope to return next year.

We always come back for more
By Earth, 1/13/08
I travel to Vancouver, BC ever 4 to 6 months and try to get a different hotel each time, just to try things out (locations, service, quality, packages, etc) But the Oceanside Hotel is my repeat offender. The staff is friendly (Sam, the owner is awesome) and a great location for little shops and close to the gay district. We get a room always for over New Years so that we can walk all of half a block to the beach and do the Polar Bear Jump into the ocean. Yes, the cleaning staff is a bit inconstant – but that’s really not a big deal when one considers the location, getting the room for a good price, and having so much space to ourselves. I have paid well over $150.00 to get a room in say, The Sandman – but the room there was ¼ the size and terrible service and really, over-all, inconvenient. But here, you have access to a wireless network, the ocean, tv, a kitchen (with basic supplies, enough to make pasta or coffee, etc), a lot of closet space … It’s really a nice place – even if a few things could be updated, it’s still cute and has its charm. The only thing I might suggest, is that you bring or buy your own towel. But that could be just me, because I like big, beach towels.

Great location but...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/10/07
I stayed here in augest for 4 days. Pros: room had a Kitchen full size fridge stove/oven. Room felt more like an apartment then a hotel because of its size which was nice . the location of the hotel is just wonderful has the beach and stanley park and in walking distance. Theres stores shops and resturants all over. The staff was very friendly and helpfull. Cons: Housekeeping was not the best acceptable at best. no cooking supplys (pots pans knifes that sorta stuff) in my room which was a big disapointment when ask if i could get some was given a single pot small fry pan has to buy my own big spoon and knife. this tick me off has i cooked all my suppers while i was there. House keeping also didnt give me a fresh dish cloth and towel daily felt bad for having to use the white face cloth and white towel for doing dishes. I was on the second floor and would close and lock my windows when i left so no one could break in has there were no screens on the windows and didnt feel safe with them open when i was not in the room but housekeeping would open them all when they were cleaning. Overall: Great room and location just dont think i got my $150 worth a night and will not be going back on my next trip to vancouver.

Sam's the man
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/4/07
Stayed there in early September...had a really good time...Very helpful staff...we were just in and out all day and even got a good parking spot inside garage...The beds were alot better than at the Sylvia...Grabbed a tea and walked around the corner to Sunset beach to watch the sunset and all the people...The oceanside is surrounded by restaurants...Safeway down the street...you can have some things in the fridge at the room......20 steps to Denman...WOW...we definitely would return, and just wanted to say hi to Sam and thank you for making our stay enjoyable...
