\"2\" Count them - 2 months in paradise

For eight wonderful weeks Jan. and Feb. 2007 my husband and I lived at the Maryland Hotel in San Andres...it was pure bliss. "Welcome to your home" they said and it did become HOME.
Friends and family thought we were mad to go to a hotel and San Andres Island sight unseen...but we had done our homework and had read the reviews.
The Maryland is a small elegant/intimate, very pretty hotel - with lots of black marble, etched glass, brass, original art hanging on the walls - it's light and airy.
Room 239 is the best room/suite in the hotel, with a balcony that faces the ocean and windows with views of the ocean and the downtown in the distance.
Large rooms - with a livingroom/kitchenette, bathroom with a bathtub/shower for those who like long soaks, a huge bedroom with a king size and a single bed. Clean, clean, clean.
The food was excellent - you can also eat at the other decameron resorts which were excellent too, but we chose to eat most of our meals at the hotel. There was always a good selection, fish, meat, vegetables and deserts.
The people who work at the Maryland are kind, thoughtful and treat you like family - what more could you ask for?
The only down side is its location - it is very close to the airport. When the huge planes take off the noise is quite deafening - but you do get use to it. I am sure we could have relocated to another decamron hotel but we loved the Maryland and its people.
The Island is safe - we walked downtown from our hotel almost every evening and enjoyed seeing the families out and about, there are lots of tourist police around to help you should you need it - we never did.
The Decameron chain with its five resorts on the island caters to your needs and being able to visit/eat at/play at any of them left no time to get bored.
If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet getaway (there are no nightly shows at the Maryland as you must go to the other Decameron resorts)where you can unwind - this is the place for you.
Would we go there again? - You bet!
