Beach Plaza Hotel, Long Beach

This place was easily the worst place I've stayed in, by far. Hotel was booked on Expedia for a bit cheaper than walk-ins and pictures of the room was nothing dazzling but we were close to the beach, close enough to walk down to the water within 10 minutes. The plan was to go out for a friend’s birthday bar hopping in Long Beach and take a taxi back and crash in the hotel. A total of 4 people were supposed to be staying in the hotel in two double sized beds separated by a wall. My girlfriend and I took a taxi back to the hotel around 2am to our room 207 no more than 20 minutes later the other couple arrived with two of their friend who offered to drive them back instead of letting them hop a taxi. Shortly after everyone made it back to the room we received a call from the front desk. "This is the front desk calling, there was a party in room 109 and I called the police to have them all removed. I'm also going to have them come up to your room and if there is more than 2 people still up there then you're ALL OUT. You signed a paper when you got here saying there is a limit to two people in this room". Visiting from LA I had no plans on going to jail or any type of run ins with the police. Neither the girlfriend nor myself was in any position to drive so me and girlfriend ended up sleeping the night at the other couple's friend’s house so when the police arrived no one would be hauled off. while walking down stairs to the car to leave the little Asian man is at the bottom "Don't ever come back please do us that favor and never show up here again" I felt all racially rejected but in a drunken state either keep walking or exchange words that would have inevitably ended worse. So a night in a 2.5 hotel on a beach ended up a night in a South Gate apartment. After returning the next morning for our luggage and vehicle we tell the morning manager about last night’s events and she had no knowledge of this. She apologized but the damage was done and the night was wasted (for us). Only thing she could offer was Danishes but even those couldn't remove the bitter taste left by the Beach Plaza Hotel. Fun Times... After returning to a more stable state we noticed a few things.... The cops never showed up. Night manager may just needed to have some fun at customers expense. 2 people for 2 double wide beds doesn't sound right. The morning manager said that room is meant for 4 people not 2. The line about the paper signed was all lies. Booking tickets through Expedia, they don't tell the hotel details about the room such as price we paid or number of people that will be in the room. Refund wasn't provided. Service was horrible matched the rooms, best thing about this place was being so close to the beach but then again you don’t have to book a room to see the ocean.

The Beach Plaza Hotel was a true find! The staff was warm, friendly, and helpful. It's a taste of old California.

We had a room right next to the pool. The pool was sparkling.. the room was spacious, very clean. Comfortable pillowtop beds.. The staff was outstanding! meaning very gracious, accomadating, and genuinely happy to take care of their customers.. free coffee and danish in the mornings was nice... There was a private gate which led down a redwood staircase and you were right at the beach. Close enough to walk to shopping and entertainment. I would have enjoyed staying longer to enjoy more of LB!

The carpet turned our socks brown and sticky. The shower was painted over tile, and was peeling off. We checked in for 2 nights, and asked on check-in for some decaffeinated coffee. We were told that none was delivered to the hotel. We asked repeatedly over 2 days for the decaffeinated coffee, and none was ever provided. We asked for a room change to one with a clean carpet, and were told nothing was available. It became obvious that the ownership and staff did not care about our comfort or happiness with our stay. For service and cleanliness I would like to give zero stars.

Dirty, Dirty. Room 202. Black mold, shower didn't close, caulking everywhere, windows didn't lock, lumps the size of baby turtles all under the carpet, carpet FILTHY, Bathroom floor worn down to its' underlay. The area is really bad, lounge chairs on the blacktop parking lot. Rooms are very old and not kep up at all, jacuzzi, why even have one it is so small.

The hotel was built in 1942 as the Surf Hotel and Apartments. It is not a luxurious as many of the other hotels along the coast, but a great value for the location. Most rooms are either one-bedroom suites or mini suites with full kitchens. I stayed in a mini suite that did not have a kitchen, but had a private balcony. The view was incredible!!! The staff was great and met every request with a smile. The designer toiletries that would be expected at a posh resort impressed me. I was traveling to Long Beach for the Eukanuba Dog Show. The hotel was recently remodeled and had changed their pet policy, but still let me stay with my show dog. Located next door to Bluff Park, it was a perfect get-away from everything with a great place to walk my dog. Bluff park is also a great place for a picnic, frisbee or the kids to burn off steam. Sadly I was told that there are plans to tear it down to replace it with a high-rise hotel and Condos some time next year.

On business trip for two nights the Beach Plaza Hotel had complimentary bed guests (ants)at no charge. When we notified the staff three times their customer service swam in the toilet with the ants. The noise from the very busy street was continious all night, no air conditioning as advertised just a fan to push the humidity around. The front louvered windows had no locks or screens and the unfriendly worthless staff would never had known if the room was broken into even with their desk view of it. They do have view of ocean in the back parking lot but it overlooks the gay beach and the "residents" that hang out all night at the park next door and hearing the main shuttle bus stop 20 ft from our door. What a deal for all these extra ammenities at a high dollar "HO tel". And finally we also "didn't experience" any customer service from the "working girl uniform" desk person mentioned by another review. BEWARE!

I stayed with my kid to have some ocean fun without having to drive around. This hotel fit the bill with a private beach access, clean rooms, friendly staff. This is an old hotel so it's not luxury by any means and the walls are thin so I wouldn't stay during seasonal rush when kids are partying. Loved the views and easy access to everything.
