Good value, cool decor
By splat, 3/21/08
The staff was very hospitable. The atmosphere was cool and smooth. The rooms were a little bland (all white) and worn. There are many cool places outdoors here to relax. I like it for the price.

Not what you expect
By D, 2/19/08
I had read the reviews and thought we would try it. I was very disappointed for the money they charge. It was an all right stay, but not worth the money. The rooms were very clean and staff was friendly. They charge extra resort fees per person and the rate goes way up from their average $125-$150 per night to about $200-250 per night. The hallways and carpet seem very old and not comfortable. The hotel does not have the greatest parking. You have to pay extra for that too! They have an on site lot that will charge you extra per night. If your like me and can't parallel park very well (which is what all of Miami is) then plan on extra cash! We will most likely not stay there again. There are way too many other places to stay that are of greater quality and are the same price. The best this was that it was very close to the beach!

I wish I read the reviews more carefully!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/25/07
My first mistake was not realizing the distance this hotel is from Ocean Drive/The Strip. What a shock I was in for when I realized the strip was 25 blocks away! If you don't rent a car, take the bus for $1.50. Taxis are expensive. When we arrived our room wasn't ready & they were going to hold our bags for another hour. However the manager arranged for another room. The rooms & bathrooms are small, basic & plain. The gym is a joke:Only 3 pieces of equipment. The pool was small but cozy.Beware: There is a $10. per day fee to use the gym, pool towels & breakfast. The staff was professional & cooperative. I compared these reviews to reviews on another website.I wished I read these reviews more carefully. I would have stayed somewhere else.

A good value... not super swanky
By matt, 4/25/07
We went to MB with our 10-month-old in April 2007 and stayed here. We booked it because of a few reasons: Their pool appeared to be at least partially shaded (baby can't be in sun all day), it was not in a loud area of Miami Beach and it was rather inexpensive compared to most places on MB. The hotel was very clean. It is obviously not new... a bit dated -- but clean. We got a two-room suite which was pretty roomy. It had a TV in the main room and the bedroom. The breakfast/food options at the hotel were dismal... and there aren't too many good restaurants within walking distance. You'll have to take a quick bus ride, walk 12 blocks or drive to the South Beach neighborhood. The beach is about a 1 minute walk out the front door of the hotel. The pool was a little small but very clean. It was shady in the afternoon which was a nice break from the intense FL sun. The wireless internet service only worked in the pool and lobby area. I recommend paying for the $15 daily parking fee. Meters were generally full and I saw a ton of meter maids issuing tickets in the neighborhood. We would stay there again. It was a good price. We would probably stock up on food at a grocery store next time and plan our meals early so we would not be stuck without food late at night. Oh - and the bar had free drinks every night. That made up for lack of food options.

Overrated! Caution!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/10/07
Caution!!!!!!!!!!!! First, the rooms. There is a world of difference between the "really" remodeled rooms in the back and the normal rooms in the front. Most of the rooms in the front are not good. See the last two reviews. Dirty and musty. The services are terrible... starting with the desk/front manager. The lies started from the very first minute until the end. Also, be careful, they take a photocopy of your drivers license and credit card!!!!!! no kidding. When I protested, he claimed that every hotel in the world does this. Stay away, stay away.

A youth hostel on steriods
By elizabeth, 4/4/06
Wow did it look nice in pictures! The lobby was cool. And then, reality hit . . . See below the person who loved this hotel slept in a bed with 2 other people. Yep. It is the perfect place for teenagers and underage drinkers. It is a DUMP. The staff was horrific and became very passive aggressive to complaints. The bar hosted parties that kept me awake all night. The management was surly--when I asked for more shampoo they told me where the Walgreens drugstore was! I was also told to fill the sink with ice because they had no in room refrigerators so that people would buy stuff at the bar. The review that mentions the hairs all over the bathroom is entirely accurate. The rooms had cool furnishings but they were musty and dingy when you looked closer. Mostly I saw a bunch of really young people here who were stimbling around drunk. In the morning, the place smelled like a frat house. This is no place for adults and certainly not for families. Oh and it was practically empty even on the weekend. If you do go here, bargain them down. This place is worth no more than $75 a night even ifit is in Miami. They are desperate, but too mismangaged to gain clientele through respectable practices.

enjoyed our visit
By frederick, 1/14/06
Great bed and super linens. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Carpet needs cleaning. Bathroom products were top notch (Aveda). We think some inexpensive stuff may have been ....lost.... in our room.

Great Stay in South Beach!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/22/05
My husband and I spend a week at this hotel in April 2004 shortly after it opened. We were 5 months pregnant at the time and in need of a getaway. Upon arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a friendly staff who was more than willing to assist us. We found that the hotel was just far enough from downtown, walking distance from small heighborhood restaurants and across the street from the beach. It was the perfect place for us. We also would suggest using public transportation ($2 vs $10+ per trip) to get around South Beach. It is easy to use once you have an understanding of the city! We would stay at this hotel in the future.

Testimonial
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/13/05
I spent 7 days at the circa39. I loved how friendly and personal the staff were toward us. The Loby is most impressive especially after dark which captures a true contemporary feeling with romantic overtones thanks to the many candles which illuminate the room. Friendly, clean and above all affordable. I would highly recommend Circa39 for both short and long term vacations. Extremely gay friendly.

NEW Circa 39 is OLD
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/18/05
After reading a number of positive reviews surrounding this art-deco hotel, I decided to try this hotel on South Beach. Wound up being a mistake. The hotel was nothing to write home about. Very plain rooms and ordinary looking. The bathroom was also a little dirty. My girlfriend and I BOTH had an allergic reaction to the bed which also was not completely comfortable. Worse, the staff did not seem to be friendly or helpful upon check in or upon departure. Location wise was a drawback since you are nowhere close to the action on South Beach unless you like complete solitude! The only thing positive is that Miguel, the Bartender at the Hotel Bar was very friendly and offered a unique perspective on living in Miami. Its better to stick with the Marriot or Holiday Inn chains. They offer more bang for the buck.
