We weren’t sure what to expect in South Andros Island, but we knew we were through with over commercialized destinations like Nassau, so we took a chance. Just a short flight from Nassau over to Congo Town and we were in our own little paradise. Hands down the best vacation decision we have made to date!
We took a five minute cab ride to Emerald Palms where we were warmly greeted and escorted to our villa. The WOW! Factor when we stepped inside was great! It was better than we expected with marble floors, king bed, big daybed, Jacuzzi tub for two, a kitchenette and a huge glass & marble shower. We also enjoyed the big front porch for sipping evening cocktails.
The resort had everything we could have wanted: a full service restaurant (even free continental breakfast buffet), bar (killer Pina Coladas), fresh water pool, bikes, kayaks, snorkel equipment. We did as much or as little as our hearts desired. The staff (and everyone we met in South Andros) was extremely friendly and helpful. It was refreshing to be treated like a friend or family member as opposed to the stuffy impersonal service we have experienced elsewhere. They called us by our names and showed a genuine interest in how we were enjoying our stay. The American managers, Ron and Margaret were very hands on and spoke with us daily to ask if there was anything they could do to insure we had a fabulous time.
We reconnected with each other on this escape unlike any other place we’ve ever visited. Our strolls along the beach made us feel like we were on our very own private island. There was no TV in our villa to distract us from our beautiful surroundings or each other. Although, selfishly, we might like to keep Emerald Palms and South Andros a secret, it would be a shame for others to miss out on the true Bahamas experience, so we highly recommend the Emerald Palms in South Andros.
We’ll be back!
Basically the whole experience of South Andros Island was just remarkable! The island and water are nicer than anything that the United States or Mexico has to offer!
The Tiamo resort is rustic but very comfortable and in some ways even elegant. The hospitality of the owners Mike and Paragay leaves you feeling like part of their family. The room is comfortable and private and right on the beach. The food and drink are great and there is as little or as much to do as you want.
I'll definitely be back!
