Inn At Creek Street & New York Hotel, Ketchikan

Stayed at the New York on and off during a three week visit. Combining a trip to Wrangell Is. and camping Ketchikan the NY was home. Location is great, located next to historic Creek St., salmon fishing is right out the front door! Yes rooms are small but clean in the main hotel. Room six is quiet. The suites on Creek St. are beautiful and spacious. Service is wonderful; Renee and her staff aim to please. Alaskan hospitality shines at the New York Hotel.

This small hotel has the feel of a bed and breakfast with the amenities of a large chain- and better. The staff is welcoming and very helpful. The spacious rooms have a cozy feel decorated with antique furniture and patchwork quilts. They provided free wireless internet in the rooms as well as an internet accessible computer for all guests to use. The cafe served up some great coffee and wonderful sandwiches, too!

We stayed for a week in a suite, which is located on Creek Street , around the corner from the main hotel. The suites are new and very comfortable, though the bed is in a loft requiring climbing of stairs. The rooms have cable TV and free wireless Internet that works quite well. Creek Street is crowded with people from cruise ships all day visiting the shops there, but magically they disappear back to the ships by 5 pm and so the evenings are quiet and peaceful. The neighborhood is charming and ideal to get a feel for Ketchikan life. Downtown is within walking distance, so shops and restaurants are easy to get toto. If there is a downside, it is that the hotel has no parking lot so you have to find a place on the street which is not a problem. Things to do in Ketchikan include a float plane ride to Misty Fjords with Michelle Masden in the Lady Esther DHC-2 Beaver (Island Wings) or a book a fishing trip with Shawn Mitchell, or visit the totem parks at Saxman.
