You are in Mexico to enjoy yourself
By ,
There were good and bad things. If you are single and trying to enjoy Mexico without all the other stuff, this is not the place to be. Its more family and couples oriented and they kick you to the curb at check in. This place is in the middle of nowhere so unless you are o.k. renting a vehicle you are at the whim of the the courtesy/tour buses. And they are pretty good, you just have to book a tour or something. Go to Xcaret, its awesome for a day trip, Its like a Zoo, water park and medevil times all rolled into one. The food at the hotel for breakfast/lunch was great but going to mexico for italian and chinese is not my goal. Dinner was garbage. Different Themed shows every night, list of stuff for the kids. You still pay for the non-motorized sports (remember you have to pay to get there). The inside of the rooms were great. The view from the rooms are to be desired. They deliberately book you away from the ocean view so you can pay the upgrade to see the ocean. The drinks were o.k. but there was only 1 waitress on the beach. With the amount of people there on the beach they could have had at least 6 to do justice. The Cheese burger from room serivce was awesome though for dinner. It was 20 bucks just to call my tour guide to take me back to the airport so if you have global service on your phone use it. And FYI if you want to bring alchol back wait until you get to the duty free at the airport when leaving, that way you know you arent getting ripped off in town or take one of the shopping tours they offer from the resort to player del carmen or cancun and buy your souvenirs and stuff there. Overall after a week there i have a great time. Will go back but maybe at a closer resort to everything

ITS MEXICO !!
By ,
My girlfriend and I stayed here from the 27th of Feb to the 6th of Mar.The check in was pretty bad like all the other complaints you've read but everybody just slipped over to the bar and had a cocktail. There were waiters bringing drinks over as well. We never did get a king size bed so we pushed the two queen sizes together and had a 10 ft. by 7ft [ sleeping ] area! We were on the outside edge of the hotel facing the ocean which was nice because you could here the waves crashing in the morning. We heard a lot of complaining from the guests about one thing or another and although we did have a few sketchy meals at the theme restaurants things seemed to improve drastically when the owners showed up a few days before the grand opening on the 6th of March. Other than the few meals we really couldn't think of really any areas that needed a lot of attention. There was more food, snacks and bars than you could imagine and not enough time to enjoy them all. Now for things we did and will share with you...The snorkeling thru the hotel is by far the best thing you'll do for $2. Sign up the day before you want to go and go everyday if you like. Sign up starts at 8 am and I wouldn't leave it much later than that......ok 8:30 ish. THE BEST THING WE DID.The boat picked us up at the dock in PMorales and suited us up for the proper fits and life vests and we floated around the reef with a guide for about an hour. We tipped the guys $10 and it was well worth it. Take the bus everywhere you can...5 pesos and that gets you a return trip thru Puerto Morelos and back to the hotel...don't worry about being at the bus stop because if you see the guys coming just wave them down and they'll stop for you.Getting to Playa del Carmen was just 19 pesos each way and it's an express bus that will take you right downtown to the shopping district and the same depot that will take you back. When the local bus crosses the main hwy. it turns left and stops, get out there and walk past the 7-11 and walk 1/2block until you see the office on the right that will sell you a ticket to town. The busses run every 10 mins. so you don't wait too long and then the trip in is about 40mins.On the way back that same bus will drop you off across the street [ no need to request a stop as it will anyway]. Then get off and walk around the corner and the local bus will pick you up [5 more pesos]and drop you off at your hotel.I believe the last bus running is 8pm but theres taxis at the same corner that'll take you back. We did one tour .....XEL-HA and Tulum and at todays exchange rate was $330 cad. for two.The park was a joke...sure it included snorkeling and all drinks and food inc. but we had that already at the hotel with $2 snorkeling..not enough time to explore it all because we were part of the tour that continued along to Tulum and that was very cool . If you can find a bus tour by itself to Tulum do it or rent a car for the day......but avoid Xel-ha. Your on holidays and your in Mexico ENJOY YOURSELVES its hot, your not cooking, cleaning or working. Have a great vacation.
