Can't Wait to Get Back
My first trip to the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize was a fantastic experience. It contained everything from the morning kayak trips out to the reef which can be seen from shore to the nightly camaraderie of people exchanging stories and laughs from the day’s activities in the nightly water taxi trips up and down the island. Part of the charm of Belize is its attempt to, unlike Cancun Mexico, remain somewhat underdeveloped and the government has for decades tried to protect some of the natural habitat that makes Belize so unique and a mecca for scuba divers from all over the world.
The lack of roads and vehicular traffic make this large island seem much smaller and more remote, which as a city-dweller I greatly appreciated. Despite the under-development of the infrastructure on the island, Las Terrazas is a new and very modern resort with high-speed internet access in the rooms. The locals told me that it has some of the nicest accommodations on the entire island. After staying there and exploring around the island for a few days I would have to agree with the locals assessment. The clean and modern architecture and handsomely appointed rooms makes it really unique among the other resorts on the island. It is much more luxurious than most in Belize and it is nice to come back to an apartment style suite with large bathrooms and showers after a long day of scuba diving or kayaking.
