Hotel Banana Azul, Pto. Limon

I enjoyed being right on the ocean they had beach lounges right on the beach for guest. All the people were great the staff was excellent. The owner Colin is great and goes out of his way for his guest. The grounds were great the staff was all great and so helpful. I am ready to go back. Very well kept place. I would go for a visit when I go back. I had a great time.

Great service, great fun, clean and large rooms , good food and very relaxing. Perfect location and our honeymoon there was awesome.

Well managed hotel with all amenities and done almost on "tico time." Basic, fresh food, pleasant and efficient staff, great guests and good location. Minor floor squeaks on occasion, conversations mildly audible but nothing of issue. Total relaxation plus. Apparently booked year round and a number of the guests I met were repeat customers.

We went to Banana Azul for our honeymoon and had a fabulous time. We stayed in the Howler Suite and the view from our room was amazing! The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. The entire staff was extremely accommodating and willing to help with anything. The bartenders, Franklin and Ana went above and beyond in every aspect of our trip. We could write a novel about how nice this place is, but we recommend you see it for yourself. The staff at Banana Azul made us feel at home and made our honeymoon very memorable. My husband and I stayed for 10 days in 2008. Puerto Viejo is our favorite vacation spot and have been several times. Although we have never had a bad experience there, Banana Azul was above and beyond anything we could possibly have expected. The location and scenery are absolutely stunning. We spent ours at a time going between relaxing and swimming on the beach to lounging in the beachside hammocks with a good book. I can honestly say that it was the most peaceful experience in my life. We truly felt that we had discovered our own private oasis. The staff were exceptional. Every staff member was helpful, kind, and professional. They set up all of our adventurous day trips and tours, allowing us to simply sit back and enjoy our time, rather than scurry through brochures and try to find a suitable travel tour agency to assist. They even found a pizza place that delivered on a Sunday night, so we could watch the Superbowl, while enjoying pizza and beer. All of our meals the were quite lovely and delicious. I am a vegetarian and they always made sure to include a meatless dish on every meal's menu. Most places would just throw together a pasta primavera and send me on my way, but they went above and beyond to insure that my meals were not only suitable, but tasty and full of variety. I must also say that I love the family style seating option at mealtimes. We were ale to sit alone when we wanted a more intimate dinner, as well as sitting with other guests. We met some wonderful people, with whom we still communicate to this day. Sometimes, we would all sit so long that the staff would join everyone for a cocktail after closing! I would highly recommend Banana Azul to people of all ages. No matter what your vacation style might be you will not be disappointed.

Our family found this bit of paradise just a couple years after it open. We have visited there at least 3 times...and will return again, as soon as we can. It is not only beautiful but the customer service from the owners and staff is the best! The service and food is something you remember and talk about long after you have gone home. We have been all over Costa Rica....and found nothing any better than Banana Azul. We recommend it to everyone that shows an interest in Costa Rica!!

David, Colin and Roberto are wonderful - our stay last July (2010) was amazing. My husband and I traveled all over Costa Rica, drove across the country, up and down both coasts, and Banana Azul was, and still is, our favorite place we stayed! We cannot wait until we can go back! Something about the place - the super friendly and genuine staff, the doggies, kitty-cat, monkeys howling and birds waking you up at 5am (hubs slept through that) or was it the lack of TV's blaring, only the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore that lulled us to sleep every night? Whatever is was, we loved all of it. We stayed in an upper floor room, no AC (didn't need it!), with french doors opening onto a large balcony, view of the ocean through the palm trees, hammock at the ready, and our last night stayed in the tree house apt because they couldn't accommodate us for the last night in our current room. Um, we booked a simpler room and yet they upgraded us!! Gorgeous treehouse apt! And....since we had to leave so early in the morning for our drive across the country, David took the initiative and went ahead and asked the kitchen gal to make us a special "travel/car friendly" breakfast instead of the pancakes that were being offered that morning. We had cups of fresh fruit, coffee, and egg sandwiches all wrapped up, ready to go when we were. AND WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO ASK FOR THIS!!! I love this place. My boyfriend and I went earlier this year and absolutely loved it! We rented a car and drove from San Jose so we could go sightseeing on our own, but hardly left the resort and nearby town. It was so beautiful and peaceful, and right on the beach! The food and mixed drinks were amazing and much cheaper than we had budgeted for. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful place to stay, Banana Azul is perfect. If you are looking for a "party" atmosphere, you will be disappointed here. As for the owners, we didn't have a lot of interaction with them. However, as we were leaving for the airport we realized that our car's battery was dead. They helped us jump our rental car and drew us a map to help us get to the airport. We will definately return!

Roberto, Colin and staff make you feel like family

Amazing from beginning to end! Everything about it was wonderful and the people there made the whole experience even better. As for the person's review that said they checked out early because of "bad-vibes", I have to wonder if we were staying at the same hotel. My husband and I were there at the same time you say you where there and saw none of the things you talked about in your review. Everyone at the hotel was having a great time, there were no "over-flowing ash trays" and both owners, Colin and Roberto, were both at the hotel the whole week we were there and even had Christmas dinner with us.
