Best Time Ever
By Stacey, 6/13/11
This hotel is right next door to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Starbucks is on the other corner. Very nice rooms and the staff was the best. The outside fire pits are a plus on a cool night with a warn drink. They will even bring you a blanket if you need it. The feather beds are nice and the fire place is a plus in the room. We had a great stay and will go back. Oh yes and you can buy your aquarium tickets from the hotel - 2 day pass for the 1 day price.

Loved hotel, but don't use priority club points
By Review Guru, 2/1/10
his was a wonderful hotel. So close to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which we planned on visiting. The wait staff were so wonderful. They were kind and very helpful. If you needed anything at all, they were on top of it. The desk clerk and manager however, were a different story. When we arrived at The Clement in December, (I had made reservations in early November and had called to confirm the morning of our trip) we were shown to a room with a king sized bed, but there were four of us, 2 adults, 2 teens. So the bellboy took us back to the front desk and we were told, "sorry, we cannot guarantee rooms if you make the reservation using priority club points". I asked why I wasn't told that and they said we should have been. So I asked what one was supposed to do if they come from a long way (4 hrs) away expecting to get their room that they had booked. He said you just have to take a chance, but Priority Club members get last choice and this particular weekend there was nothing available. That certainly didn't ring true so I asked for the manager and he confirmed what the desk clerk said. So I asked what we were supposed to do. He said "I don't know, we're booked, but let me see if I can find you something." After about 20 minutes, he "found" us a room at their hotel and our vacation started. Even though it was a very stressful beginning, because I wasn't sure if we were going to have a place to sleep, after we got our room, we had a wonderful time. Monterey is lovely and the hotel is very centrally located to the things that we wanted to do. I would recommend this hotel only if you don't use priority club points because they treat you like you are trying to stay for free. In order to receive enough club points, we paid for and stayed at many, many hotels. We just wanted to use one of the perks of being a member. Obviously, The Clement doesn't want member of the Priority Club staying at their hotel.

Peace by the Beach!
By Shuttlesworth, 10/19/09
I truly enjoyed my stay at the Intercontinental! The room view was panaramic and the bed was very comfortable. The food was quit delicious, as well. The employees were complementary and respectful. The building is very new looking even though it is almost 2 years old. I would recommend this hotel, if you want to relax and enjoy the ocean waves putting you to sleep! I will be back....very soon!

Beautiful, well run Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/6/09
This Hotel has everything you would want in a hotel. The staff (save one) is extremely courteous and professional. The location is right next door to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and shares the coastline. The rooms are clean, spacious and extremely well stocked. Every amenity desired has been provided down to the consideration of adding power outlets on top of the desk and at each bedstand. The in-room coffee maker brews a fresh, single serving or provides hot water for tea which is also provided. The room also provided more then ample storage for clothing and other items. The hotel itself creates a quaint courtyard which opens to the bay. This outdoor lounge is lined with gas heaters and comfortable patio seating. I have only a couple of detractions from what was otherwise a perfect weekend. 1) Parking is $17 per night and the garage is 1-2 blocks away depending which buidling your room is in. You can valet for $20, but we chose to self park. This fee is paid separately upon checkout. It would seem to be a simple service to provide guests with free parking and increase the rate of the room to cover the cost. 2) There is one employee with a heavy european sounding accent with an extreme attitude problem. While the entire rest of the staff was exceptionally pleasant, professional and extraordinarily courteous, this employee was incredibily obnoxious and condescending. Fortunately, we only encountered him two times on our visit. Repeated exposure might have cost this hotel my 5 star rating. The encounters with the one staff member came close to ruining the hard work and goodwill generated by the rest of the staff. I would definitely consider returning to the Intercontinental, assuming I would not have to come in contact with the bad apple.
