Punta Caracol Acqua Lodge, Isla Colon

The best place for family vacation. This hotel is great. You can't get there by car, so you take a boat from the small town, Bocas. You get to chose your meal the morning of the day. Don't forget to bring mosquito repellent when you go there!! The rooms have a beautiful view and they have two levels each: one bed on top, and two small ones, the bathroom, and the balcony and ladder to go into the ocean on the first floor. The houses are built on "piloties" and are not connected to land.

If you're looking for a beautiful place to get away from everything, this is where you should go. No TV's, no loud noise, no ringing phones, no people everywhere, just relaxation. My husband and I took this trip Oct. 5th 2009. It is our best trip ever. The staff is WONDERFUL, the food is GREAT, I have NO complaints!! I really enjoyed snorkling and relaxing on our deck. The boat trips they offer are really nice, a little pricey, but nice. It was our little Tahiti and much much cheaper as well. 5 stars in my opinion!!

It's very out of the way, quiet and secluded -- great for couples or adults wanting to get away. Probably too boring for kids. We just hung out in the cabins (built on stilts over the water), read, snorkeled and ate at the lone resort restaurant. It's not 4 or 5 star accomodations, it's an eco-resort --solar-charged power, limited impact, not spotlessly cleaned by tons of detergent. Subject to weather and climate. We loved it and found it relaxing. Sadly, GSM phone service worked from signals from the mainland. For people who need it, boat excursions are available to town for shopping or snorkeling in other locales.

Don't be fooled by Punta Caracol's beautiful pictures and deceptive marketing. Here's th run down: food (horrible!!), service (slow- if any at all), accommodations (beds were flimsy, soiled and smelly), excursions (lame, plus we waited two hours for pick up), THE WATER IS BROWN AND POLLUTED! WE GOT VERY SICK! Punta Caracol is a total disappointment and a rip off!!!

It doen't have too much to do for the kids. What about water parks near the hotel. Maybe more things to do. like pools and hot tubs. Some thing like that
