Don't go if you like a cool room...
Pros:
The hotel itself is not bad at all. It's understated, and not crowded, probably due to the pricing, but that's really what you're looking for at Encore. if you wanted a million screaming kids, you'd be at TI or MGM. The casino is nicely desgined, classy, and the pool is great. Almost empty when we were there, but again, that's what we were looking for. As far as restaurants, the only place we tried was SW at Wynn - it was very, very, good. Wait for a table outside if you have to, it's worth it. That was the only place we ate because of the below.
CONS:
Apparently, this hotel does not believe in air conditioning. The AC unit is over by the window, and so it blows into the living area. So that area is ok as far as temperature (if you keep the thermostat at 60 that area is maybe 75). However, both my wife and I woke up at 2 am sweating. The other part of the room where the bed is must have been 80-85 degrees. (And I had a friend of mine who likes it warm in his house (78) stay there, and even he told me he was a "bit warm" in the room.)
We moved rooms at 4 am. No change. Looked at a third room - same thing.
So now we've been in Vegas for 20 hours. It's 6 a.m., and we've had about an hour's sleep. Needless to say, the next day was shot.
After checking out room #3, finally the front desk admits "Yes, we have 'high efficiency air conditioners in the rooms and they really don't blow as cold as normal ACs." We'll that's great, thanks for the info. Keep my $300.
We left and went to Palazzo. The room was not as nice, but it was twice the size and comfortable.
I was very disappointed. I will go to a hotel just because Steve Wynn built it - I just like his style. But he spent a couple of billion dollars on the place and the tried to save a few bucks a day in operating costs by getting cheap ACs.
In a place where it gets to be 120 degrees in the day.
Perhaps not the best idea.
(And I'm not trying to harp on one thing - but when you're laying in bed at 2 am sweating, not much else matters.)
