Great Service from very friendly Hotel Staff
By ,
We arrived late after a delayed flight to be met at the airport by the car from the Hotel as arranged although we were almost 3 hours late. The manager Tom met us at the Hotel, and checked us in and quickly gave us a map and showed us where we were in relation to all the sights in Hanoi and suggested a suitable walking tour. This was the type of first class service we got all through our stay. We had booked a 2 night trip to Halong bay through an agency but again they had no problem holding our bags until our return. After travelling for almost 4 weeks in Vietnam and staying in different quality accomodation what stands out about the Duc Thai Hotel is the friendliness of the staff and there genuine willingness to do everything they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Great hotel, great service, great location
By ,
The Duc Thai was a great spot for us to stay for 4 days after a week in Laos. We booked on the internet following a reviw of past travellers on trip advisor. Tom and his staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble for them in regards to where to eat, where best to shop and advice on local tours. The breakfast was more than adequate for us, laundry service was available at a very good price, the internet was free and being in the old quarter everything was close by. Would recommend the Duc Thai as a great place to stay in Hanoi. RobandCherie Mildura, Australia

Great location, lovely staff
By ,
We stayed only stayed at Duc Thai for the first two nights of our trip but would have happily stayed longer. The staff were brilliant, helping with flight and train bookings, transfers, and other hotels along the way which was great. We got back on a night train from Sapa at 4.30am and they opened the hotel up for us and gave us a room for a shower and got our luggage out of storage (which had been there for a few days) - for no extra charge, which was a godsend! However, I would recommend staying in a back room, the streets of Hanoi are noisy, but apart from that would have no hesitation in staying there again. LK1975 London

Good location, good price, and outgoing staff
By ,
Stayed at this hotel based on other TripAdvisor reviews. Was not disappointed. - Ease. About two weeks before our stay, we contacted the hotel by email to inquire about rooms, airport transportation, and asssitance booking local tours. The hotel gladly arranged not only our room, but airport pick-up and drop-off, and a 2-day trip to Halong Bay. Was nice having a sole local contact to arrange everything during our first trip to Vietnam. No disappointments what so ever; however, just remember that hotels normally will charge a bit more for tours to Halong Bay (service charge) than say a tour operator on the street. However, the convience and piece of mind were worth the extra few dollars. Bonus - the hotel allowed us to leave our bags at the hotel during our excursion to Halong Bay without any additional charges. Remember to ask about one free taxi airport drop-off or pick-up with a 3+ nights stay. -Location. Within two blocks of the night market, and a 15 minute walk of Lake Hoan Kiem. -Price. $25/night. Bed slept two people comfortably. Rob_D_San_Diego San Diego

Great Service & Good Value for Money
By ,
Stayed at Duc Thai hotel & used it as a base to explore Sapa & Halong Bay the service by the staff at this place was excellent communication was great. All trips organised through them were as described no hidden surprises. On our return we were able to have shower even though we were not staying over night they also looked after extra luggage organised money exchange for & had our laundry ready for us each time we returned they are very obliginging to any request. I would highly recommend this Hotel to any one wanting to stay in the old quarter. OutthereWollongong Wollongong

Convenient and friendly hotel
By ,
We stayed in Duc Thai for 4 nights in total (between tours) and found our stay to be consistent with the previous reviews. When we first stayed here it took a while for our room to be ready, and this was partly due to staff shortages during Tet (New Year), but once available the room was clean and tidy. We returned to the hotel on two occasions following tours. The hotel is friendly and comfortable and the staff made every effort to be helpful and to store luggage, book taxis etc. Breakfast is fine, but not made to order. One of the major perks of this Hotel is its location. We tend to explore by foot and found that we could easily access the heart of the old town and surrounding area. We booked our 2 day tour to Halong Bay through the hotel for around $65pp and thoroughly enjoyed it. A word of caution that we found useful was that many of the boats/accommodation seem to be the same, and that the rule ‘you pay for what you get’ does not necessarily apply. It appears to be common to find that you are on exactly the same tour as someone paying far less or more. If you are looking to pay much over $80pp, check what you are actually paying for and shop around. That said, you cannot really go wrong with the Ha Long Bay tour offered by Duc Thai. A minor point, as with most hotels be aware and comfortable with how much you are paying for water, exchange rate and laundry before you use or commit to them. We found these services to be generally a lot more expensive than other places we had stayed in Vietnam.

Good value for the price
By ,
There are so many affordable hotels in Hanoi, but I chose this one based on the positive reviews about the service of the hotel manager, Tom. Upon checking in, Tom was extremely friendly and excited to meet us. Unfortunately, that was pretty much the only time we crossed paths with him for the rest of our trip. The bedroom was nice and comfortable. One downside is that the in-room internet didn't work so I couldn't use either of our laptops, but fortunately they had two pc's in the lobby, although I still couldn't securely connect to my work email. The cable tv reception was a bit poor, and the bathroom seemed to show its age with wear. I slept with earplugs so the street traffic didn't affect me at all. The complimentary breakfast was better than I expected. The location of the hotel was very good. Overall I was quite satisfied with our stay in the hotel. LA996 Los Angeles
