good value
By ,
Worth the tariff, overall. quiet, somewhat remote in a gated area;. Good variety of breakfast food; adjacent to the Nile; attractive grounds with a large pool; pleasant room (for which I asked for a minor repair that was made immediately); hot water came up slowly; free wi-fi only in lobby area, pricey in rooms; room air conditioner seemed only a fan, didn't cool.

Poor service
By ,
The morning buffet had a wide selection of food. I didn't put up a do not disturb sign. But the room staff didn't clean my room after the first night. Just stay out of the souvenir shops, as they tend you rip you off with relatively low grade goods. Another down side was that the hotel was located pretty far from the city center, making it quite a trip to tourist sites

Disaster
By ,
A group from Australia came in March and had an overnightstay. Half of our group fell sick and 3 people including my husband needed a doctor because whatever they have been eating made them so sick before we left the next morning for the flight to Cairo. I and others fell sick later. The service I did not think of that much. The waiters let us wait for a long time and after prompting them that we are still not served they were not impressed by that. So the Management should educate the service staff better and show some friendlyness. At end of the day the Customer is the king and not the hotel people.

Deffo back next year
By ,
This is the only place I have been to that I have said I will return . The staff, the rooms, the pool and the views from the hotel are faultless. Food is varied and there is something to eat for everyone. If anyone is planning a trip to egypt then I would recommend this hotel and also luxor as it has fantastic views and tourist attractions.

Peace and Quiet at last
By ,
Wonderful holiday i would go back next year, the staff are friendly, polite and very helpful. The rooms are clean and very spacious. Worth its 5* rating. The food is a boufet all you can eat, the sweet selection was heaven !My comp to the resturant manager. The location is central to the temples and museums. You can take an internal flight to Ciro if you want to visit the Pyramids. The Sofitel Karnak is a nice restful place to rest and get your head back together.See y next year.

In one word "great". Just the rooms were a little small (we were 3 adults)but we are out the whole day, so it wasn't really a problem.

Great Holiday
By ,
The Sofitel Karrnak is one of the best hotels I have ever visited. The staff are all extremely friendly and would do anything for you. The rooms are clean and spacious, you even recieve a chocolate on your pillow every night. The food is delicious and has something for eveyone. Each night there is a different theme from around the world, but it still caters for vegetarians and dieters. The assistant chef here, Ahmed, is also brilliant. When suffering from mild heat stroke, he went out of his way to make us the food we felt we could eat. The pool is huge, there are plenty of sun loungers and it never feels crowded. The bar is also in the pool, so you can sit on mosaic stools in the water, whilst enjoying your drink and snack. The food and drinks here are also very reasonably priced, around 4.50 for a burger, chips and soft drink. Although the hotel is a little further out compared to the other hotels, this worked as a benefit. Instead of being surround by dust, noise and street vendors, you are surrounded by the beautiful gardens that contain huge palm trees and that overlook the nile. The hotel also has free minibus and boat services into the city centre on a half hour basis. Although there are main collection points, the staff are so friendly, they will ask where you need collecting or dropping off. The service is also very prompt and we were never left waiting to be picked up. I would definately go back to the Sofitel. We visited the other main hotels whilst out there and found them to be less tranquil, with more ware and tear: they were definately not up to the standard of the Sofitel Karnak. Even the holiday reps can be found around the pool on their days off! Everyone should go to Luxor to see the vast amount of history and when there should stay at the Sofitel Karnak!
