RIU Cancun All-Inclusive, Cancun

My wife, 11 year old grandson and I stayed at the RiU Cancun this past June. We had a really great time and really did like the Riu. The food was outstanding, service was wonderful and we thought that the Riu was a great choice for hotels to stay at. This was the 12 th trip to Cancun for my wife and the Riu was the best yet. We have stayed at some really nice Hotels in Cancun also. The location of the Riu was really good, as there are good shopping, restaurants and night clubs in easy walking distance. We were able to go on a few side trips and we booked them through Lomas Travel, there in the Hotel lobby. Xelha, Xcaret and Isla Mujeres are some really good side trips that we enjoyed. One of the best things that I can say about our stay at the Riu Cancun, was the great, friendly employees that worked there. They were so courteous and would do their best to make your stay an enjoyable one. We always have tipped the bellmen, waiters and maids very well. I'm sure that they don't make very much money, so they show their appreciation with good service. For some people to complain about not getting good service, a little tip and respect for them goes a long way.

The RIU Cancun is not all what it is cracked up to be. I was disappointed in numerous ways. First off, in the main part of the hotel (where the bulk of the rooms are located) there are only 4 elevators to accomodate guests for all 15 floors which may seem fine but, NO. They are very slow, small, and extremely stuffy (filled with thick, hot air). The room doors are a frustrating challenge to open. The rooms had a bad odor of smoke/musk. We has 4 different rooms and all of the bed were like boards unless you request a bed pad from housekeeping. If you eventually do end up falling asleep it's never for long.. do to the continuous slamming of doors and people yelling throughout the halls that echoes throughout the entire night. Also, the in-room mini-fridge restarting is also an annoyance throughout the night. In one room, there was no hot water in the shower. The employees aren't the friendliest and are always looking for a tip in anything they do. The food was okay but ended up getting old very fast. The speciality Brazilian restaurant was very good only if you enjoy meat though. The breakfasts were very crowded and difficult to find a table. Also, if you are looking for delicious mexican food meals, don't stay here just for that because it isn't very good at all. Now for the beach and pools... Both are VERY crowded and if you don't go out before the sun rises to reserve your chairs then you won't have a seat. The pools are nice and the beach is alright too. However, the actual space of sand on the beach is very small. Nice sand, and also NO BUGS which is very nice. There is no poolside service so be prepared to go up and get your own drinks. The front desk is rude and aren't looking out for the guests best interests at all. To call back to the U.S. you muct buy a prepaid phone card at the hotel and each time you want to make a call with it you must do so down in the lobby and pay a $2 connection fee per call. Unless, you go out in front of the hotel by the street and use the pay phone for free. If you want to hookup to the internet you have to go to the sports bar and pay $8 per hour. The gym is very, very small. If you've never been to Cancun it is very much a city and not "jungle" like at all. Across the street from the resort is a mall filled with stores including a Lacoste and a Starbucks. The night entertainment by the hotel was okay. However it was very hard to get a seat & normally didnt even begin until 9:45. Overall, I would not recommend nor return to RIU Cancun. It seems like it once was a nice place but it is definately at the end of its prime and being run down.

Great place to stay with or without kids.You will without a doubt have a great time with family and friends.Will be going back soon.The hotel is great place to stay it is very clean and the service is FIRST CLASS.When we got there our room was not ready only because we arrived two hours early ,they gave us a junior suite instead of the room we were to get.It does not get any better than that.

I WENT LAST SEPT/OCT AND THIS IS THE BEST PLACE I STAYED IN CANCUN. VERY CLEAN, SERVICE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. YOU ARE IN WALKING DISTANCE TO DOWNTOWN....SHOPPING, CLUBING ETC. THE FOOD WAS GREAT, THE BUFFET HAS EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN. YOU WILL NOT REGRET STAYING AT THIS RESORT. WE WILL BE RETURNING AGAIN THIS YEAR.

This is my second trip to Cancun and my third trip to an All-Inclusive resort. Riu Canucn lived up to every expectation and more. I took my boyfriend who had never been out of the country and we had the best time. The location is perfect - right in the Hotel Zone with a ton of bars and shopping right across the street or a short walk away. We chose the Corona Bar because of its outside appeal and while the music was way too loud (I must be getting old), we had a blast. The food was great here. I was afraid because of my past experiences (braised goat tails in Jamaica???) but I was very pleased. I have to say that I had chips and salsa with almost every meal. They are the real deal, made fresh right there. The rest of the food at the buffets was good as well. There is a large selection so even the fussiest eater should be able to find SOMETHING to eat. One downfall is that if you want to eat at any of the specialty restaurants, you have to be downstairs and in line in the lobby at 7 am...YIKES. We were on vacation and didn't want to wake up early! We were very glad we did though. We ate at the Japanese restaurant and it was amazing. Fidel was an awesome waiter! They have many different travel agencies downstairs in the lobby that can help you plan any excursions you want to go on. We chose the wave runner snorkling tour through Aqua World and it was so much fun. The waitstaff are so friendly and helpful so please pass them some $$$ if you can. We tried to tip whenever possible even though you aren't supposed to. I would say the only two downfalls to this hotel were getting up at 6:45 for a dinner reservation and that the beds were as hard as rocks. We only stayed four days, but my back was killing me by the end.

Would not recommend the riu to anyone. We were kicked out of the riu for talking to a man that did not have a band on his wrist. We were on the beach and he was being served by the beach waiter and he started talking to my husband. I didnt realize that talking to someone would get us kicked out of the hotel. I think the staff and security should take care of the problem, not a guest that is on vacation. Please be cautious of this hotel, they over booked that week as well and i believe that they were looking for a reason so they could rebook our rooms. We are older people not the young spring breakers so we were not drunk or causing any trouble.

THE RIU CANCUN ROCKS. THIS IS OUR FIFTH YEARS GOING. CENTS 2003 THE SERVICE WAS GREAT THE ROOM ARE GREAT AND THE VIEW IS NICE.

Very professional, friendly, attentive service. Great food. The sports bar is fun. Reserve or request a junior suite room. Very spacious, great location, and spectacular view. I don't know how you could beat the location. It is within walking distance of anything you would need and you can catch a bus right out front if you'd rather not walk. Be sure to take advantage of the on site tour coordinators. These guys are great!

our family spent this past week at Riu Cancun The location was excellent, the beach was very good, (better than many) The food was plentiful, although not always exceptional quality. the activities at the resort were fun and complimented the relaxation well. a very solid B -- things that could have made it better -- the beds were not very confortable (too firm), the food was always decent but a bit bland at times, the staff was friendly and they constantly clean, but they missed items here and there. The resort was a mix of singles, older couples, younger families and a broad range of ages -- we had ages 12 through 47 (6 of us) and all had a good time and all gave it a B as a resort and one of our top family trips.

Liked just about everything. Food was excellent, people were really great especially Zuly and Andrew so professional, yet so down to earth. Loved all the food except for the restaurant in the hotel,can't remember the name, the other three were fantastic. Rooms were very pretty and kept very clean, never had to call for something needed in our room or bath. We were celebrating our 54th Anniv. If we had the funds I'd be there for our 55th in Oct.
