Warning: Hotel is Next to Train Tracks
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/18/08
As the main reason I go to a hotel is a good night's sleep I learned from extensive travel that an important things to do is to check the hotel for noise factors. In this case I was not very careful. I arrived at at the hotel to present at an important meeting in Monterey the next day - with a good rest being a priority.
At 11:30pm I heard a horn blast from a train passing by. I call the front desk and was reassured that "this only happens once in a night and this is going to be it".
Unfortunately after falling asleep - another blast jolted me out of my skin at 12:30. Calling the desk they said there were quieter rooms but there was nothing available this night. Then once again at 2:15am another blast. This was repeated again at 3:30pm.
I find it hard to believe that what I was told is true regarding one train pass a night, This hotel apparently is at a major crossing path for the railway.
The hotel itself is quite nice, clean and the staff is friendly. However, the major reason why I go to a hotel is to sleep - and needless I paid a price for this visit. I was far from my best the next day (and the red eyes with bags under them did not help!) I guess if sleep is not priority to you, this hotel is fine.
