The Tahquitz Inn, Idyllwild

The owner was very nice, but the room was awful. The carpet was very old and stained and bathroom very old and in need of an overhaul. The bathroom was pretty clean aside from a blob of toothpaste on the wall beside the sink. Even though we were not happy with the place we decided it was o.k. because we just needed to sleep there! But that changed when we got ready to get in bed. The sheets looked and felt like they had not be changed since the last guest. There was alot of body hair on the sheets.We called the owner to perhaps change rooms, but had to leave a voice mail. So we did not stay. We drove back to San Diego at 10pm. This is a very nice place to stay, close town (walking distance), clean, home type rooms, nice fireplace. It has all the basics, will stay again.

This little place is great for a weekend, or week, away from everything. It is close enough to the village that you don't have to get into the car to get a cup of coffee (if you don't want to use the unit in your room), a pizza at Idyllwild pizza, or just tour the shopping center known as "The Fort." The pool is only open in the late spring through early fall, but since it is usually snowing during the other times, that is rather understandable. It is much more personable than a big hotel; I had dinner with the owners at the picnic tables--we were all using the BBQs that night. And given that it is a small town, if you go there frequently, as I do, they will not only remember you, but also your children and spouse. Sometimes in the winter, the walkways can be a bit slick; but the owner is usually out there pretty quick to de-ice them. Trying to think of bad points that might be detractors...not easy.

We stayed here after reading lots of reviews, and were not disappointed. The rooms are well-equipped, the staff friendly, and the place was clean and welcoming. I like the separate bedroom/living room setup so I could watch TV while my wife napped. I can see why it is so popular, and Idyllwild is a beautiful town with lots to do. We will stay here again.

We discovered the Tahquitz after becoming unhappy with our "old" favorite place after new owners took over. I wish we had checked out the Tahquitz Inn before. This place is much cleaner than the other places, has many more features, and a lot bigger units. My husband and I booked online, wnating to try some place new, and got a one bedroom unit with a kitchen, a bedroom, and a fireplace. The wood we ordered was waiting in our room, and we were surprised at how nice this place was. They say they are the number 1 hotel in Idylwild, and I guess it is true based on what we got for $85 a night. We are going back in April to enjoy another weekend in Idyllwild. Try Cafe Aroma when you go to Idylwild- it was very good!

We really like the Tahquitz Inn. Thanksgiving was our third spent there, and as always, we had a fantastic time. My wife cooked the dinner in the kitchen, and we ate in front of the fireplace. The kids didn't want to go home after four days, and our dog (Teddy) wanted to move in with the owners. The new bathroom fixtures were a pleasant surprise, as were all the new decorations. We hope to get back up there when the pool opens in May- if my wife and I don't sneak away (alone) before then! We haven't stayed anywhere else, we will stick with the Tahquitz because we are always so happy there. TIP: Idyllwild Pizza has new owners, and the pizza is good there now (no more cardboard).

My wife and I were lucky enough to get a room at the Taquitz inn during the Jazz Festival. Somebody had canceled at the last minute and we got their room. It was really great! The bedroom had a super-comfy bed, there was a kitchen, a table and chairs, even a corkscrew. We got invited to a party at the picnic area both nights we were there with a lot of the other guests, and had a great time. The hot tub is the greatest thing in the world at night under the stars, and the pool was clean and not too full of chemicals. We already booked there for next year! We paid $85/nite and thought it was a real bargain. It is much cleaner than most hotels we have stayed at. It looks like fun in the winter when it snows too.

We love going to the Tahquitz in summer when the pool and spa are open. It is just a really great place in a great town. We like the big suites and the bbq area too. It is like a condo that you rent for just a weekend... We will be back!
