We had a fabulous time in Panama. The stay at the Decameron was great. Service was good. Room was clean. Resort very well maintained.
The location was a bit far from Panama City, However the location on the beach was very nice. Perfect for long walks and adventures to the Candian Bar Woody's. Worth taking a long hike along the beach and stopping for a cervasa! and Poutine if you are so inclined.
The tours are good in particular to Portabelo and "Carls Jungle Boat tour" is well worth it.
We would recommend this resort. Try to venture off it.
A lot of pool and beach space, not too many people (until the nightlife hits), and free drinks. (Is there anything better?) The food was, in a nutshell, excellent. The buffet-style fare was as good as any pricey restaraunt here in the states. The only drawback is that it comes with a fairly high (for Panama) pricetag.
Just got back from the Royal Decameron Beach Resort Panama.
The arrival was brutal, from the time we landed to the time we stepped into our room took well over 3 hours. The bus ride from the airport to the resort was 2:10 mminutes which we found very difficult after a 5 hour flight.
Once at the hotel everything was nice.
The staff are very friendly.
Food is comparable to any other 4 star all-inclusive.
Beach was excellent, the ocean was very rough. You could only swim in it a few hours per day.
The grounds are beautiful, this is the best kept resort I have ever seen. Losts of geen lush lawns and trees.
Not much you can do around the resort without renting a car or buying a packaged excursion. These excursions are excessively over priced. 100.00 to go shopping in Panama city, 140.00 to see the canal.
Instead we rented a taxi for the day 80.00USD and the driver took us shopping, to the canal and gave us a tour of the city.
Overall this was an OK trip, not the greatest nor the worst.
We would not recomend this resort because of the distance from the airport. The drive in and the dirve out makes you loose 2 days out of a 7 day vacation and because of the lack of things to do around the resort.
My husband and I stayed at The Royal Decameron Beach Resort in September of 2007. We had an awsome time. The reviews we read spoke of the long hot and painful trip from the hotel. We decided to rent a car instead. It was a great adventure. We did take a wrong turn but asked a police officer for direction, not only did he give us directions but he escorted us for a while. When we got to the resort we were so pleased. The staff was very friendly. There was quite a language barrier but we were very excited in trying to learn spanish and in turn teach them english. We stayed at the villages. Our room was great! Everything was very clean. The food was good and choosing different restraunts every evening was fun. But take advise and choose your restraunt at the beginning of the week. They do feel up fast. We never went hungry. We took the four wheeler tour which was a blast. Jaun was our guide and we became friends with him. Went went on the deep sea fishing tour and caught 14 big fish. It was so much fun and the staff on the boat was excellent. Don't forget to go on the Bubbua Gump Shrimp Boat. They teach you how to shrimp and feed you some of the best shrimp you have ever put in your mouth. We ventured out to the volcano mud bath and the rain forest. The casino was not much to see. We got a full body message that left us both speachless. Make sure you do that when you want to go somewhere and relax. The local people we so pleasant from the workers, to the local businesses, to the local children that would always smile, laugh and wave as we would go by. We ventured out to several areas with never a problem. The only rude people we ever ran into we people that were visiting. We stayed so busy and still did not do everything we wanted to do. We met so many people that touched our hearts and we definetly plan on going back again.
The food and cleanliness was #1. The waiters and waitresses were pleasant and helpful. The language barrier was a huge problem as not many spoke English. Some understood a bit. Their Directions are usually the opposite to what they really mean ! The nightshows were varied but there should be some singing too rather than performances only.
It was also a good idea to have a Catholic Mass on site but here again, it was only in Spanish. Since there are a lot of english speaking visitors, there should at least be a bilingual mass.
The return trip was far more organized and uneventful than the arrival one. On our arrival at Tocumen, our baggage was on different conveyers other than on the conveyer which indicated Air Transat. Some were mixed up with Sun Wing and other carriers; some were even taken off of the conveyers and found on different sections of the floor. After eventually finding the baggage, we got through the customs, got onto the last bus for the two hour ride to the Hotel with one stop. By this time, everyone in the bus was hungry, tired and frustrated and just wanted to get to the hotel although there was the guide onboard who nicely gave a presentation as we travelled through the city. The tours were expensive so didn't do any. Would have liked to do some shopping in the city but it was like two hours away to a good mall. The Alderbrook Mall was not very interesting. It was too crowded anyway at this time.
We travel frequently and find this one of the most exciting, inviting, fulfilling and friendly places to visit. Well centralised for continued travel. The staff are extremely helpfull. Complete facilities for all interests, everything for everyone. Decameron continues to fulfill our requests and interests. We will revisit. It is worth a 10!
You will not find a more beautiful resort anywhere. Absolutely spotless and well taken care of. However, the front desk is very unclear with fees and such and may try to take advantage of the unfamilar traveler.
