Wedding Disappointment

May 25th was a beautiful day for a wedding. It was 78, sunny and light breeze. It all looked perfect. Only my bridesmaids and the wedding planner at the Inn knew of the money nightmare and inappropriate business practices that started before my event and has continued even 12 days later. What I can say is that you need to make sure you plan your wedding with the food price quotes guaranteed and re-confirmed in writing 90 days before your event by the Inn Keeper. Also make sure to inspect your final bill closely, to make sure you are not double or triple charged for reception meals. And be aware that a scoop of ice cream on your pie will cost you $4 (making the total cost of a slice of pie w/one scoop ice cream $8/guest).
6 days before the wedding, I received this email from the Innkeeper (this exact, non-edited email):
Sorry to add this on.
In review of the contract, and quickly changing pricing, I would like to have you consider two options with the pies. The price of flour has doubled since this was quoted. Thus we have tried everything as not to have to pass on the price increase, but unfortunately we need to, to cover our costs. Thus the price per serving is now at 4.00 per person. vs. the 9 dollars per pie. As well as the price for cookies has doubled.
A couple of considerations, as I had previously mentioned:
1. serve smaller serving sizes on the pie.
2. increase the amount of cookies per person, * concerns for this is not everyone would get a piece of pie.
3. pay the higher prices, that we have no control over.
Please let me know your decision as soon as possible.
I was charged $36/doz. for cookies and the pies were $1.50/slice in our original agreement and then raised to $4/slice. What do you do when your wedding is in six days? We suggested canceling some other items off the list to cover this new, unexpected cost for the desserts but the Innkeeper then stated we could not negotiate any other changes, she stated " you can not change anything because it was in the contract already". She reneged on the contract at the last minute, with last minute drastic price increases, and essentially tied our hands. We had no other choice but to agree to the last minute increases. The Innkeeper treated us rudely and unprofessionally after this on several occasions, even though we begrudgingly agreed to her price gauging in an effort to move forward. I can tell you so much more...but this is the most important part.
We wish we had read the many complaints with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) before booking the Inn as our wedding venue. It seems this Innkeeper has bitten off more than she can chew in having wedding receptions there, perhaps she should just stick to having B&B guests only. She seemed tense, rude at times, and is obviously having trouble balancing her books, based on her billing practices. Our experiences with the Innkeeper placed a lot of stress on me and my husband the week before the wedding, and added a negative tone to our special weekend. Other than the Inn Keeper...We were treated very well by the rest of the staff...Jackie & Krys...who did a wonderful job to make our wedding exactly how we envisioned it. If it wasn't for them, it would have been a very negative experience. They were very professional and made sure our guests did not see the tension between the staff and Inn Keeper. Jackie told us not to worry about anything…and that she would handle everything…just go and have fun! She did just that!
