HH Gold / Worst service ever at a Hilton Hotel
By A Yahoo Contributor, 7/26/10
I arrived to the area early (11a) for a large soccer event (Bluegrass Games) that was taking place in the area, so I stopped by the hotel to see if it was possible for my family to check in; I was told if I waited 30 minutes I could. This didn’t work with our schedule, so I just let them know I would be back later to check in.
I arrived back at the hotel around 2:15p, and went to see if I could check in; I was told 3p was the check in time, and I would be lucky to get checked in at that time it would likely be sometime after that. I was offered the reason that their rooms were not cleaned. I believe the two working behind the desk created a lot of the frustration themselves; to begin with, they offered no reasonable expectation to anyone that rooms would be available anywhere near 3p. There were several, several families waiting in the lobby with their luggage; all apparently waiting for rooms to be cleaned. I asked what the circumstances were and in a very sarcastic tone I was told "Sir, we are doing the best we can; we were completely booked last night and again today. You will just have to wait." Other people waiting apparently received similar sarcastic responses. I waited by the front desk where I watched person after person walk in and get turned away from being checked in, and mocked behind their backs; including rolling their eyes and making comments under their breath which they would hen laugh out loud to each other. I then asked if they were short on help, their response was "no, each of our people clean several rooms -we are doing the best we can" -again very sarcastic. I remained by the front desk hoping they would begin to check people in as rooms were cleaned and became available. At that point the two women behind the desk began to mock me and the people in the lobby, joking and laughing and telling another male employee that they needed him in case things got rough, and implying that people were acting threatening.
I heard no one express anything but frustration about the situation and claim it to be ridiculous (which it was). This busy time; with all these guests was not a circumstance that was unexpected, this soccer event takes place in this area every year at the same time, and without doubt the reason they were "completely booked", my reservation had been booked weeks in advance and others in our group had reservations booked on the calendar for several weeks; if not months. This was not a situation where a large caravan of people showed up unexpectedly.
Since I stood right at the front desk I was one of the first people who was given their room. I checked in at 3:12p only 12 minutes after the posted check in time, but there were people in this group who were not checked in until after 6p.
Upon checking into our room -there were no towels, and we heard they were still in the dryer. Towels were delivered to my room; where upon answering the door my daughter had towels tossed at her; no comments, and the lady turned and bolted from our door.
I am at the Gold VIP level for Hilton Honors and I prefer to stay at Hilton Hotels whenever I travel, and I have stayed at this particular Hilton Garden Inn during past Bluegrass soccer events. I have never even heard of a circumstance where, Hilton employees stood and made fun of, and mocked their guests for being upset when the circumstance was no fault of the guests, but rather the hotel's, much less been at the receiving end of it..
The staff was friendly, the beds were very clean and comfortable.
The pool was very nice and the internet. We ate breakfast and it was
really good. Better than you would find a any resturant hot and cold foods.
Free parking well lit, One of the best things we liked was the non smoking
and no pets, please don't change that.
