Disappointed
By ,
Disappointed. My wife and I stayed here several years ago and were very impressed with it. I even wrote a very glowing review of it. We stayed here for three days recently and I dont know what happened but the hotel's standards have slipped. There were three main issues that concerned me. One was that the wifi was spotty at best. We had an ipad and and iphone with us. Half the time the wifi was not working. We checked with another couple who were with us and were staying nearby and they experienced the same issues. Two was that our room was not cleaned the first day that we were there. We left at 10 am and saw a maid in the room next door. We got back at about 4 and a maid said that she forgot to give us towels. She gave us the towels, but when we got into the room, the bed was not made, nor was the room cleaned. Finally was the attitude of one of the valet parking attendants. We dropped off our car yesterday afternoon and when we got to our room, we realized that we had left something in our car. My wife called front desk. They transferred and she explained the problem to them. They said that they would bring the car around again so we could retrieve the item. I went down expecting the car to be there. When I got there it wasnt and the valet had such an attitude that I would up getting the keys from him, and going to where the car was parked in the adjacent garage and then getting the item myself. If you are going to charge me for valet parking, dont give me an attitude when something like this happens. We would have brought these issues to the managers attention, however we had a long drive home and checked out at 5 am. We did not feel like bringing it the issues up then. Overall this stay was a disappointment. There are a lot of other hotels in the same price range as this one in Savannah. We will be staying at one of them the next time that we are in Savannah. I subsequently contacted Holiday Inn Express'es customer care, but I get the impression that the hotel does not care about how rude their employees are.

Wonderful location!
This hotel is the perfect location to stay while visiting Savannah. We parked our vehicle and never moved it all week. Everything is within walking distance. All of the staff was courteous and very helpful with where to go, what to do and where to eat. Becki, the bartender, has the best personality - it's like visiting Cheers. :) All areas of the hotel were very clean. The choices for the complimentary breakfast were wonderful. We have already recommended this hotel to our friends, and will definitely stay again. It felt like home.

This one is great...don't look any further!

Staying at the HIE was an unexpected delight! The hotel feels VERY fresh and clean, our room was very comfortable, and every single person that worked there was courteous, friendly and helpful. We loved having valet parking, and the guys that handled our car were all great...didn't seem to mind bringing it around at any time of the day or night and were very prompt. The complimentary breakfast included eggs, bacon, fresh fruit and much more than just the usual carbs and sugar that is offered at other hotels. There were also lots of extra free offerings....bottled water, granola bars, newspapers, maps of the city, etc. We loved going up to the top floor pool/patio area for a spectacular view of the river. The location of this hotel is perfect....right in the historic district and an easy walk to the city market, restaurants, squares, theaters, shops and river street. The price is very reasonable, especially when you consider the location and amenities. I highly recommend this hotel.

Great value and amazing hospitality
By ,
Our expectations weren't high, having stayed at HIE in other cities, but we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were comfortable and updated, the entire hotel staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The location was perfect - easy walking distance to all of the downtown attractions. The highlight of the stay was Becki - the bartender/concierge at the attached Port Royal Tavern. We stopped in for a quick drink after a day of touring, and she made us feel like we had been staying there for years. She is a wealth of advice and info - places to go, places to avoid, knows all of the movers and shakers at restaurants to get you in at a moments notice. We are already planning our next stay!

Love this hotel!
By ,
This hotel has a very nice entrance and is convenient to a lot of activities. The pink house restaurant is nearby and the Pirates House is within walking distance, too. The rooms are not large but they are very updated. Space is at a premium in the historic district so I don't mind sacrificing space for conveniences. If you are lucky enough to get a corner room on a higher floor you can view the river and the huge cargo ships that come through on a near daily basis. Breakfast is provided and there is a lot of variety. The rates are very reasonable for what you get. We had a great time staying there and part of it was the convenience to all the activities down on River Street. When we stayed in December, we had reservations at another hotel except they could not accommodate our large vehicle. They told us to park on the street or at the visitor center which we did not feel was in as good a part of town as this hotel. I highly recommend this hotel and likely will be back again. It is a great stop on your way to Orlando. The only thing I dislike is parking can be tricky with a full sized customized van with extended roof. We have stayed there on two different occasions in April 2009 and December 2009. In April, their valets had to move our van every few hours to ensure we were not ticketed because our vehicle would not fit in the parking garage. In December we were lucky enough to find a spot on the street and just paid for our parking while we went along.

Liet to about parking...received two tickets!!
By ,
Hotel told me to park on street and display parking tag on dash of car. They said that they had it worked out with city?? However, if I received a ticket for parking on the street the hotel would pay for ticket. They have not and I am getting late charges from City of Savannah. Nice clean room, great location and OK service.
