Miramar Garden Hotel, Taipei City

I just stayed, for my second time, at the Miramar Garden Taipei during Computex Taipei 2008. I knew since my first visit that this was a very special place. This is the best hotel—hands down—in Taipei! The rooms are spacious and spotless, and the shower has two separate shower heads in which to choose from—both with powerful pressure. There’s an enormous desk and internet connectivity: wireless and an ADSL hook-up—there’s no charge for internet access. There is a safe in each room. Downstairs there is a cozy bar and restaurant. All of the food is served fresh. I personally witnessed the bartender slicing up three cases of oranges and then making hand squeezed orange juice. The restaurant would make Chef Gordon Ramsay proud! Breakfast is included in the price, and it’s varied, plentiful and excellent. Taipei would be the last place in the world where I would think about getting a good hamburger; however, I was definitely floored when I had their egg burger (it is listed on the bar menu.) It is the best hamburger that I’ve ever ate—and I’m an American! I was also impressed with the fitness room. They have treadmills, weight machines, dip/pull-up bar, and a good selection of free weights. The hotel’s motto is “The comforts of home; the feeling of family.” This is actually true, for when you first arrive, you quickly realize you are at a special hotel. This is because of the friendliness of the staff and their genuine concern to make your stay a great experience. Accordingly, when you see moral like this you know the leadership is top-notch.
