The BEST Honeymoon spot!
This was the best resort I've been to yet! There were soooo many things available at the resort and the two sister resorts surrounding the Grand Mayan, that we pretty much stayed on the property the ENTIRE time!!
The rooms were beautiful and big! We LOVED having our own private pool on the balacony so we could take a dip at any time without having to even leave the room!
Everyone was SOOO nice from the beginning and the entrance with the ENORMOUS Mayan gods are AMAZING!!!
We went to two events that the Grupo Mayan put on. The Paradiso Tropical on Monday night and the Mexican Fiesta on Thursday night. The Paradiso was a Polynesian party. The food was just "alright" and they were WAY short staffed with waiters so it took FOREVER to get a drink at all. We didn't even stay for the performances because we were annoyed at we had paid roughly $42/person that included an open bar, but we could never get any drinks! I think the fact that we were in Mexico, they should stick to what they know. The Mexican Fiesta was GREAT!! Really good food, drinks, and entertainment too!!
Too bad we didn't even KNOW that there was a club on the Resort until the last night (Club Cobalt). Too bad we didn't walk to the left until the last day.
The pools are AWESOME! If you go, there see Pedro at the pool. He'll be walking around serving food & drinks but he was SOOO helpful and recognized us each time we saw him! He even hooked up drinks for us and would add Happy Hour drinks to our tab so we would get them for 2 for 1 while we swam and then would bring the drinks to us!!! He was so awesome!!
As for food, don't bother with GreenBreak!! We tried going there 2 times and even though the signs say they open at 11am, they realy didn't open until 1pm. It made no sense! We gave them a 2nd chance and tried going there for dinner and they were closed again!!! How is that??? If you want AWESOME seafood, take the walk along the beach to the Punta Arena at the tip of the shoreline! They have such AWESOME seafood and a great seafood platter for 2. Our last night eating there and watching the sunset was the most romantic in ever!!!! And Samba right by the pool has a REALLY good breakfast buffett!! They have all the regular American stuff (pancakes, bacon, etc) and they also have great Mexican favorites (chilaquiles, juevos rancheros, etc). Just remember to look around completely or you might miss some yummy stuff at one of the little stands around the buffett bar! If you tend to get hungry before 1pm, then I suggest you either head out to PV early or stock up on groceries from the Sun Market so you can make your own food. Be sure to call the restuarants before you plan to go, the times they post are not always correct! Just don't expect to get any "Mexican" food in Nuevo Vallarta except for Tacos Break right past the golf course. But once you're there, the food is really yummy!!!
The resort is a little out of the way from El Centro (downtown Puerto Vallarta) but that's part of it's charm too. Taking a taxi isn't that expensive (about $16 one way) but for a cheaper alternative, take the grey ATM bus outside the properties and you can get to where you want to go. But the resort area is really nice and taken care of and just like a quiet little town of it's own.
We're already talking about coming back and bringing some friends with us next time to enjoy it with us!!!
