Boutique Guest House
By Victoria, 2/23/08
I stayed at Bodhi Tree for several nights in January 2008 and had an excellent experience all around. I'll always give high marks to any place that's made an attempt to go beyond the concrete box of your typical hotel or guest house but Bodhi Tree is in a class of it's own. Tastefully decorated and thoughtfully furnished, I felt like someone had loaned me the keys to their flat. I stayed in one of the rooms adjoining the living room and kitchenette and pretty much had the place to myself. One day was a public holiday and the next was pouring with rain so I ended up stuck inside for the better part of two days. Instead of going stir-crazy, I felt right at home curled up with a good book on a genuine Lazyboy with endless cups of tea made in the adjacent kitchenette. If your idea of a great stay is in-house facilities and a staff to wait on you 24 x 7, this isn't the place for you. But if you appreciate a place that's beautiful, well-managed and unique, this is a fine choice. The owners, Devdan and his mother, are gracious, professional and flexible hosts. I found the rest of the staff to be the perfect combination of attentive (when needed) and absent (when preferred). I had a delicious breakfast on the first day but no other meals served in-house (although I did use the kitchenette to self-cater and Devdan provided a stack of delivery menus for local restaurants). The house isn't centrally located but it is very convenient to the Metro station which will take you to most of the tourist sites and it's an affordable taxi journey from night-spots like Park Street. Also, as mentioned above, there's no in-house restaurant so you need to do a bit of advance planning around meals. Overall, I found Bodhi Tree to be a wonderful place to stay and a unique find. With the few minor caveat's above, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

My favorite b and b
By gladiola, 1/19/08
I just loved every minute of staying at Bodhi Tree. The staff and owners are so kind and take really good care of all their guests, as friends or family would. The rooms are lovely, as is the sitting area and the very well-equiped kitchen. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. Also, the neighborhood of South Calcutta is very welcoming and fun to walk around in. We stayed at Bodhi Tree for a week and spent the whole time within walking distance of the hotel because we loved the area so much. If you are lucky enough to visit Calcutta, Bodhi Tree is the place to stay!

A calm oasis in a big city
By MichelaW, 1/17/08
The tranquil, family-run guesthouse is the place to be when you need to escape from the busy city center of colcata. you can reach it in only a few minutes though since it is located very close to the metro station. very friendly staff, good food, extremely clean and nicely furnished, the little guesthouse is a quiet place with a big terrace. Not a party place.

Strongly recommended

Date of stay: 26,27th Dec Admist the chaotic city of Kolkata, this is one place which finds ur mind at peace and comfort. One would not expect too much from a guest house and so didnt we. But only upon our arrival we realised how wrong we were! This is a beautiful little guesthouse, tastefully decorated, with every small thing taken care of.Had been to kolkata with my spouse and quite enjoyed my stay at this guest house Things i liked about the hotel: Even the smallest things were taken care of.Like a few packets of chips and chocolate bars , also packaged drinking water, all of it complementary. The housekeeping was very helpful and so was the manager, Devdan. He was kind enough to wave off half the tariff for the second day, acknowledging our early check out on the second day. The complementary breakfast was excellent, and they knew how to keep their promises. Room was beautiful n very clean. Dislikes:Nothing really. Had a pleasant stay.Good value for money I strongly recommend the place
