Treated like Royality!
We just returned last night from our week-long stay and I can't wait to return! Please indulge me while I spout accolades for the staff, service, and overall experience my husband & I had here. Luis checked us in quickly & seamlessly, providing us with a map of the property, lots of info and glasses of champagne. Our room wasn't ready for us as we arrived early so we checked our luggage with Francisco, the concierge (and our new best friend), and headed to Isola for lunch & drinks.
We enjoyed many meals in Isola (which becomes two separate dining experiences in the evening, one indoor & one outdoor, each having its own menu) as well as at the Hava Grill. We were never disappointed or unsatiated. During our stay, we also dined at the La Isla buffet & Mosaique on the neighboring (and sister) property of Sabor. We greatly appreciated the variety of dining experiences available to us, never a bad meal. I must offer our thanks to our fabulous dining/bartending staff at Aura, they truly made our stay a joy. Diego kept everything running smoothly and efficiently, greeting us everytime we sat down, very personable and warm. Our servers, Moises, Orlando, Tanya, Leslye, Abraham, Francisco, Margarito and our bartender Mario were simply fabulous and felt like family to us. We are so grateful for their wonderful service! I'm sure I've left out some names as we spent a lot of time indulging. I apologize to anyone who I haven't mentioned by name, but please know we were honored by your excellent service!
As for our accommodations, we chose the swim up suite and were very pleased with the spacious room, excellent housekeeping, accessability to the pool, and the bed...ohhhhh that bed. I have back issues and let me say, I have never slept on a move comfortable bed. If you can imagine sleeping on a cloud, this was my experience. If I could have figured out a way to smuggle that mattress onto the plane, it would have come home with me. Glorious, glorious sleep!
As for activities, we enjoyed taking out a Hobie cat and a sea kayak. My husband also booked an 8-hour fishing trip through Dive Palancar at Aura. Although fishing isn't my thing and I suffered with a bout of seasickness the entire trip, my husband had a great day of fishing with Captain Carlos & Mate Pablo. He caught 2 bonita, 1 red snapper, 1 black fin tuna, 1 triggerfish and 1- 40lb. wahoo (which made his day!).
We enjoyed the Mexican Fiesta night (complete with beautiful Mexican dancing) next door at Sabor. Although we did visit Sabor several times, we agreed we prefer the solitude of the Aura. No kids, no loud guests, just peace & quiet. Whenever we wanted to get a little wild, we could just walk down the beach, get our fill, and return to our peaceful paradise. I found that even the exclusive section at Sabor was overcrowded for my taste. I visited the Islander Spa twice during our stay, once for a foot bath/reflexology treatment and once for an hour-long massage. I found the spa clean, inviting, relaxing, and the ultimate experience in pampering. The prices were extremely reasonable. Their hour-long massage is priced at $95 and far exceeds the attention to detail and relaxation I receive from $160 massages here at home. Incredible value in my book! Thanks to both Ana and Sari for their fantastic services and to Guilana, the wonderful spa hostess!
As other reviewers suggest, bring a cheap raft from home for the pool & lazy river, a BIG cup, water shoes (rocky shore), and lots of $1 bills to tip these wonderful attendants.
