Loved it!
My family stayed at Palmetto Bay for one week. My husband learned to scuba dive and my son and I took it easy. We did one canopy tour (great fun), but other than that we didn't leave the resort. It is beautiful. The water, sky and beach on Roatan are amazing. I am usually a doer, so I tried very hard just to appreciate the gardens, lizards, hummingbirds and the hundreds of crabs that come out at night. I had a massage on the dock and that was well worth the $55!
The food was usually very good, but the prices are what you would pay in the US. The staff was mostly very friendly, but there were days where supplies were short. Sometimes on the island, the egg man just does not come in time for breakfast.
If AC matters to you, there are some villas that offer it for an extra $100 a week. We had one such villa and it made all the difference because in the back villas, the jungle blocks the ocean breezes and it was hot and humid for the entire week we were there. One of the great things about this resort is each property is its own little villa, so there lots of privacy.
My seven year old son loved the pool and the beach, but didn't like the ocean because of the turtle grass. There are families who live there year round, so he made friends and I read books.
Anyone going to Roatan must understand that it is part of a third world country. We had no problems with the airport but the road into the resort is rough and passes by the island's garbage dump.
