Disappointed--terrible management.
I travel frequently on business and shopped for my reservation based on hotels with smoking rooms. This hotel permitted smoking when I made my reservation six weeks in advance. At check in I was informed that it was a non-smoking hotel. I showed them my written confirmation, but the response was basically....sorry. I checked availability of other hotels and, of course, none were available on such last minute notice so I was forced to accept a room that did not comply with my reservation. The desk clerk did inform me that I could smoke out front or in back in an enclosed area. Well....the area out back is apparently closed at 10 pm, so we were asked to leave that area and forced to stand out front. We put up with that indignity also, despite my confirmed reservations. As we were packing to leave, and extremely rude manager came to the door and quite literally accosted me by saying that we had been smoking in the room. She was so aggressive that I was in fear of physical attack. Despite her hysterics, I was able to learn that one of the maids had "reported" that they found a cigarette in our room the day before. My daughter has for several years smoked only half a cigarette when she smokes. She then saves the other half for later (her way of cutting down). My daughter's saved half a cigarette was apparently the issue. In summary, I certainly understand that some people don't like smokers. I don't like fat people either, but I defend their right to jelly doughnuts. I accomodated the hotel, despite their error in failing to notify me of their change in policy, and I am absolutely shocked at the lack of professionalism. The manager's parting shot was "You can say whatever you want, we own this hotel." What hospitality. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who prefers to be in the company with sane, reasonably professional people.
