A long day of travel. 4.5 hours to Houston, 5.5 hours of book buying and airport exploration, and then 5.5 hours to Quito. We were happy to make it to our hotel, La Casa Sol, by 1 in the morning. At least the books were good! After a lovely sleep in our beautiful suite matrimonial at La Casa Sol , we sat down to a great breakfast of fresh fruit, breads and jam, coffee and fruit juice. Arrived in Quito. Met Helena, my roommate, who is from S. Hampton, UK. Had dinner with Helena and Rebecca, from London at this fantastic eclectic restaurant. Took a public bus to the Amazon. A really fat, sweaty guy, very smelly, was leaning against me the whole way. Stayed with a Quichua family. Swam in the river. No electriciy, no hot water, slept in room with Helena, Simone and Keitha. Hiked up waterfall, napped in hammocks. Taught Delphin's son and daughter how to play blacjack.
