Typing this at 6 am in our hotel in Chicago – we should be in SLC, so we’re behind schedule before we’ve actually started! Quite a day yesterday and it already seems light years ago. Journey to Heathrow was fine, though there was quite a long delay in Luton which started to concern me. Anyway, I checked in and met Steve in Costa Coffee as planned. The flight was fine and we arrived in Chicago exactly on schedule. We walked through deserted corridors towards immigration with an ample 90 mins to spare before our flight to SLC. They didn't give her cream or sugar as requested so we had to go back and I picked up a bag of ice for the chest with string cheese, water, Adkins bars and leftover wings and we were off. We breezed along I20 going east and made a couple of pit stops. As we neared Columbia, our GPS was recommending a short cut so we tried it. The trip finally begins! Getting up at 3 this morning somehow wasn't as bad as I thought, although now I'm having a hard time typing. And seeing. And walking. It was a long day of waiting around at airports and flying, but I finally made it to Washington DC around 3 today. I didn't do much since I only got about three hours of sleep last night. I found the hostel easily with the help of a ($20!!) cab. It's pretty nice. They have a kitchen and free wi-fi in the lobby area. It's super slow, but since it's free I'm not complaining.
