Turn that frown upside down!==============================================Welcome to the warm and friendly Xplorer Backpackers. We are ideally in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (popularly known as Borneo). We are within walking distance to shopping centers, eateries, restaurants, banks, post-office, express bus terminals, ferry terminals to the islands as well as the weekly Sunday Bazaar where you can get the best bargains for local produce. These range from antiques, foods, household wares, and local traditional arts to craft-work. GETTING AROUNDThere are ATMs and a currency exchange in Terminal 1 & 2 of the airport but if you're arriving late it'll almost certainly be closed and the ATMs are not always working, so make sure you've got some Malaysian ringgit before you arrive as you'll need it for the taxi or the bus. If you find yourself having just arrived and without any ringgit, you can have a taxi take you to an ATM on the way to wherever you're staying.FROM Terminal 1The airport is 7km away from the city. A shuttle bus leaves approximately every hour and drops passengers off at the Wawasan Plaza south of downtown KK. You can also catch minibuses along the main road away from the airport. Minibus No. 17 (KK-Putatan buses) will bring you to the city. Taxis (you have to buy a coupon) are also available. The standard rate from the airport to the city is RM30 - RM35. Walking into town from the airport is possible if you like walking and have an hour or two to spare.FROM Terminal 2Minibuses run regularly from the airport to the Terminal Bus Station at Wawasan Plaza (approximately 15 - 18 minutes walk to our hostel). The minibuses do not call at the terminal, but run past the airport entrance every hour or so. Cost to the city is RM1 - RM2. To get to the city by bus from Terminal 2, take bus No.16A. The bus will drop you off at the city Terminal Bus Station at Wawasan Plaza.Upon reaching Wawasan Plaza, you can walk to our hostel which is situated in Gaya Street. Walking will be approximately 15 - 18 minutes. You may ask the locals to help you find the direction. The locals will gladly help you if you ask nicely.Pick up a city map in the airport terminal, and you won't have any problem finding your way. Getting lost is impossible. There is a Tourist Information center in Terminal 2 airport and you can also ask the friendly staff for help. The information center is manned by knowledgeable personnel assigned to disseminate the required particulars to tourists.Popular landmark around our hostel is the Milimewa Superstore, Pizza Hut, Sugar Bun Cafe and Public Bank building. If you see these four, it means you are very close already to our hostel.Airport transfer can be arranged at RM35.00/way (09:00 - 21:00) * Advance booking is required (4 days prior to arrival) and subject to car availability. We are close to:-Local restaurants/Kopitiam-Pubs/bistros/clubs-Fast food restaurants- International banks (HSBC, OCBC, Standard Chartered, etc.)-Long distance taxi/minivan station: Kinabalu Park, Kudat, Beaufort, Tenom,etc.)-Inanam long distance coach station: Kinabalu Park, Sandakan, Tawau/Semporna,etc)- 12 to 20 mins reach by car to Inanam Town.-Licensed money changer-State Library-Ferry terminal (Jesselton Point)-Internet shops-Malls-Taxi station-Travel agents -Cinemas-Car rental is available.

We will be back
By Tien, 5/2/12
The hostel is situated in the heart of KK city, between Jesselton point and Wawasan Terminal. Walking distance to most of the eating outlet, shopping mall, and other hotspot. The room is clean with all the basic necessity and it's value for money. The staff is nice and friendly as well. It may be slightly noisy becos it's near to BB cafe with live music show at night.

Word of Advice: Don't.
By michele koh, 12/19/09
There are many other better hostels/guesthouses around in the same area which are so much better (eg. Rainforest). The family room is so small n cramp, has no ventilation, no window, aircon doesn't work, not clean n very bad service.
