Good over all. Romantic place.
So, my wife and I own the time share they run. This hotel is what sold us on buying the time share.
We got a "Single Room" You can get a smaller room, but I don't recommend it. My review is based on the room we had. The smaller rooms aren't that special, but you can "combine" them, and end up with a "two room" reservation. Useful for couple retreats, or if you've got slightly older kids you want to take with.
The restaurant, spa, and wine tasting rooms are all next-door at the Meritage, which is I think is owned by the same company.
We ate at Siena the first night. Its the on-site restaurant. Very nice dinner, although the menu selection is smaller than what I would have expected to see. I had the beef, asked for a wine recommendation from the server, and got a nice glass of bordeaux. I couldn't tell you more than "I liked the way it tasted" because I'm not really that good with wine, at least not yet! My wife had the risotto, and really enjoyed that. They claim to try and use local and in-season foods for their menu, which may explain why everything was heavy on the mushrooms. I got the impression that the menu changes often.
The kitchen was very nice, and had a little 'bar' area to it. Having a full kitchen is nice because sometimes I don't want to go out. Especially for breakfast. Lounging around in the morning and drinking coffee is a good way to ease into the day.
There is also a living area with a LCD TV and gas fireplace. The fireplace looks like its just decorative, but it did put out quite a lot of heat. That was nice for me as I enjoy the heat from a fire. The couch was only so-so comfortable, but folded out into a bed. Not that we used it, but having the couch-bed would have been handy if the kids had come with. We could have let them sleep there.
We had our own private balcony, it looked out on the parking lot. Not the most romantic view ever, but they did try and make things better with nice landscaping, and a view of a field and some trees beyond. It was November, and cold, so we didn't spend time out there.
The bedroom was very nice. The bed was very comfy, and had a mini-canopy over it. You can check their website for pictures of that. It also had a soaker whirlpool tub in it. I highly recommend the tub. It was very nice to just soaks the aches and pains away. The bathroom was lovely as well with a giant walk-in shower, and 5 shower heads. It took a bit to figure out how to actually get the water flowing (pull on both the directional handle, as well as the water temp handle) but once it did, it was very nice.
Everything was really done up in deep colors. I've read "tuscan" theme, but I wouldn't know that if it hit me with a hammer. I do know that everything was very visually appealing and comfortable.
There was a free bottle of wine (and soda/water) in the fridge, which was nice. They call it Rose'ary, although perhaps it just depends on what they have a lot of.
We did tasting in the on-site tasting room too. Never been wine tasting before, and the bar-tender (Jon) took some time, and gave us a "tasting 101." which I appreciated a lot.
The location was pretty good, close to other wineries, as well as the wine train (I'll review that separately) as well as other shopping.
Some down things:
1) The "wine education" that was talked about in a pamphlet at the front desk wasn't really there. See above comment about the bar-tender giving us a free "101" course. I shared the pamphlet with him, and he seemed genuinely confused, and promised he'd speak with management about it.
2) The concierge seemed to push the time-share. Already owning, it wasn't an issue to me, but I did feel under the gun. I told him I wasn't interested, he pushed a little, but let it drop after a few moments.
3) Signs weren't always clear. There was no way for me to know to check-in at the Meritage without asking, and finding the restaurant took asking again.
4) There were always cleaning carts in the hall. Any time of day.
