This carefully crafted hotel embodies the city's opulent shabby chic. Rooms featuring white-painted brick walls and hardwood floors are punctuated by floor-to-ceiling loft windows, allowing for spectacular views of the city, and impeccable design in marble flooring in the bathroom, and velvet chairs. The available technology is sleek and contemporary—all rooms feature a plasma screen television and an iPod docking station. Lush design aesthetic is prevalent throughout the hotel, including a Moroccan-inspired lobby brimming with Oriental rugs and hanging candelabras. The hotel also has its own restaurant, Gemma , which prioritizes spectacular ambiance over its pleasant but unembellished food. Situated in the NoHo district, with easy access to both subway and taxis (which the helpful staff will quickly hail for you) and within walking distance of the East Village, Greenwich Village , SoHo , and NoLita, the location makes exploration of Manhattan simple and accessible.
I loved the atmosphere and thought the decor of the rooms and public spaces was lovely. The staff were attentive and service was excellent. Possibly the nicest hotel I have ever visited. Worth the expense.
My favorite hotel I've ever stayed in--stylish, hip, comfortable. Too bad I'll be unable to afford to stay here once it opens fully. We had an amazing stay. It's close to my favorite parts of Manhattan, but those who want a more sanitized NYC stay should stay in Times Square--you are very close to the Salvation Army and all that comes with it. For those who want luxury amidst the grittiness--this is the place.
Recently opened (not fully at time of my visit - so got special "preview" rate) in an excellent location in NYC for bars, restaurants and clubs.
Room was superb - we got a corner room - with a huge bath and comfy bed.
View of the city was good too - with no-one looking in.
I will return, even though the price will shoot up when fully open (restaurant etc. expected end April 07).
