Just had dinner last Saturday at The Awesome Antlers Inn up in Wellsboro.
I chose the Chicken Marsala; I would say the best I have ever eaten. The salad bar was perfect and oh, those delicious baked beans. I was too full to partake of the dessert tray, but when you go, be smart and take something home.
Our waitress was Mary Jane, a hostess with the mostess. Do stop in and eat while you are in the Grand Canyon area.
Wait for menu was way too long. Wait for dinner was way,way too long. I don't usually write negative reviews, but couldn't help myself this time. By the way, steak "medium", according to their menu should have some pink- our "mediums" were "well". Didn't complain though- didn't want to wait again for another one!
We had a party for 20 on Easter and were really looking forward to the pretty drive to PA. We live about 2 hours away and were meeting our family there. When we called last week for reservations they had room at 4:30, I was hesitant as that seemed late for a buffet, but they reassured me that the food still be OK and plentiful as they were serving til 8pm so all was good. WRONG! We arrived and was really looking forward to a nice buffet. Were we ever surprised as we went to the carving station all I could see was Turkey, NO HAM or Beef as advertized! We were then informed that the Ham was out-WHAT NO EASTER HAM! Come on now, how hard is it to have plenty of ham for Easter, that did not start us off very good. We asked if there would be a discount for the price of the buffet but they said NO! Bad customer service here! The buffet was cheap and cold, buffet burners really did not heat very well. Regular salad bar, lettuce and fixings, but nothing out of the ordinary. The rest of the meal was horrible, and plain. Horrible overcooked carrots, rubbery turkey, can you say loaf!, soup I have no idea what was-orange? Chicken overcooked, sausage in sauce, colored, how boring and sad for Easter. Then they have what is called pasta station, what a joke ziti and fettucini noodles where the guys warms the pasta in a pan then they place on a plate and put your choice of alfredo or red sauce, no real thrill here, tasted like it came from a can! The desserts my favorite what a disapppointment! Chocolate sauce for fondue, but only marshmallows, pretzel sticks and something looking like pineapple (canned)! No real tempting desserts, shortcake WITHOUT any strawberries, and bland cake, canned chocolate and vanilla pudding-YES!. Not sure what they are trying to do but for $16.95 a person, not a really good value, I could have done that at home. When I go out for holdiay dinner I like to have a variety of good homecooked foods, not canned garbage!
Too bad the place is so beautiful definately need to get new cooks and help!
I felt sorry for the waitresses as they had tons of unhapy customers.
Never to return again!
Rebuilt from the ashes of the historic "Antlers Inn", the new restaurant is a beautiful place to dine, as well as a tribute to the owner's late husband, Ron. Ron's love for the area, the wildlife, and the people are apparent in every square inch of this beautiful restaurant. From the fireplace with waterfalls to the wildlife mounts, to the custom carved mantle, it is a real treasure. Great food and atmosphere are the highlights of this little gem hidden in the beautiful hills of Tioga County.
