LOVED IT!!!
After three days in the jungle and on the beach, relief washed over us when we stepped into the marble clad , cheerfully busy and above all welcoming lobby of this modern yet traditional Wyndham in downtown Panama.
Check in staff was friendly , followed by a polite and knowledgeable bellman who delivered our luggage without the usual hemming and hawing that announces a tip is due. After a nice hot shower in a marble clad bathroom, I slipped into a hotel robe, sat down on the bed and awoke three hours later. The beds here are delicious. The bedding, the pillows, the sheets, the whole works were designed by Morpheus himself.
Food was excellent. Giant breakfast buffet with cook to order omelet's and a great (cheap) menu in the casino restaurant that includes addictive beef chimichangas and a deliciously spicy ceviche.
The view from the pool is spectacular and we enjoyed socializing with lots of likeminded travelers on a Sunday afternoon. The pool doesn’t have poolside service but drinks and food are readily available at the Pool Bar a couple of steps from the main pool. A good spa gave a decent massage for the price.
We used the hotel’s babysitting service so we could enjoy the over 18 casino which had lots of entertainment and is pretty big. We were there on a Saturday night and completely lost track of time. At 2:30 am, the casino was still in full swing . Craps, roulette, black jack and a nice variety of slot machines. Seems like some construction was going on in one area, it was closed off with a mysterious sign about something coming soon that I don’t remember. The crowd was mixed tourists and locals, lots of security around made us feel safe. We ventured out the back of the Veneto to another casino which is right behind it called Fiesta. Looked a little scary for us (we are two women traveling alone) and no visible security.
Hotel is in a decent location, cheap cab ride (like 1.25) to almost anywhere in the city Albrook Mall was a couple of dollars more, but really, In NYC you couldn’t go a block on the fares we paid in Panama.
