Wish I was there now!!!
By Christina, 6/16/07
I can't believe the bad reviews! We had a fabulous time! We stayed at a 3 star in the area last year & this was much better. Food was about the same. The al a carte restaurants were great. We had nothing but great service in the bars, buffet area, restaurants, concierge, room cleaning staff & all staff we encountered were courteous & more than helpful. There were only 2 people the entire trip that couldn't speak english very well. I locked myself out of the room safe & a security person was there within 5 minutes to get me back in. The kids (ages 7 & 5) had plenty to do & really enjoyed it too. They enjoyed the virgin beaches, regular beach area, kids progams & kids disco, lazy river and entertainment staff. There must be some real crabby paties out there that find fault with everything! We had nothing but a great time & would highly recommend this resort to others! They were even filming a Corona commercial while we were there! We would love to go back!!!

what are you people talking about?
By Josh, 6/13/07
i was there in May 2007 and have nothing but good things to say about this resort. the resort itself is absolutely beautiful. very modern architecture. awesome landscaping. this place is for people who like to stay-in-shape. great for walking. there is LOTS to explore and see around the property. i did not mind the distance from my room to the beach or restaurant. so what if its a 10-15min walk. its GOOD FOR YOU! food, on the other hand, was not all that. but im only refering to the buffet. the a-la-carte restaurants, however, were GREAT! there are several of them and you should book them all and avoid the buffet. drinks were awesome. bar staff and waiters were always around to take your orders or deliver drinks to your beach chair. baech is totally awesome! its secluded and away from any other property. if i have more time, ill post a more complete review. i just could not believe all those NEGATIVE comments on there.

Stay Away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/27/07
This is not a 5 star hotel!!!!We found the food terrible...the buffet and snack bars had food sitting around all day....There was no service to speak of and we tend to tip very well....The beach is rocky and had dead coral and fish....Not a very pleasant stay...Look elsewhere...

I will not go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/3/07
I do not know way they call this a 5 star because it is not. They would be lucky to have it rated as a 1 star. The food was the same most of the time or having left overs redone. The main staff at the desk were not very acomadating. All I can say is if you want a holiday with no problems do not stay. Book somwhere else.

We certainly won't be going back here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/24/07
This is a not a place for anyone who doesn't like walking (on slippery surfaces after rain) and climbing stairs. There were no elevators in our unit and we had to climb 40 stairs up and down. The elevator in the main building was often not working. Staff couldn't speak English. You had to ask for everything - e.g. coffee, etc. Two nights we were woke up in the middle of the night - once with a "wake-up call" which wasn't for us and once with another traveller trying to get into our room because the registration people had given him our room. The food was O.K. - nothing to get really excited about and the beach was rocky and you would have to wear beach shoes on the sand. The pools were great. Also enjoy the lassey river. You had to walk over a rather long bridge to get to anything except the pool. We certainly would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Warning!!!! Don't book this hotel!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/8/07
We have stayed at many hotels in this area and this one was the absolute worse. Terrible service, ranging from uncaring to snarley and belligerent. Staff had no evidence of training. Rules and policing were prominent. Common sence and hospitality were non-existence. Room cleanliness was very poor, after my 8 year old got ketchup all over his robe I put it on the floor with the rest of the dirty towels, the next day these dirty things were all hung up and folded nicely to be re-used. Panels were coming down off the ceiling, I told the service person and no one came to repair. For the first day and a half we had no hot water, we had to phone repeatedly to get service. Food was very very poor, I lived on salad and fresh salsa. All and all it boils down to very poor management. The mexican people have always been nothing but extremely hospitable and helpful. It seemed like some of the staff were embarrassed to have to follow these rules and regulations.

Grand Sirenis - what a dump!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/07
I arrived at the hotel on 24/12/06 for a week's holiday and lasted 3 days. The hotel is having some serious teething problems. There are very few english speaking front line staff and those you can get a hold of are rushed off their feet dealing with other customers' complaints. I checked in and was not given any towel tokens, which is a problem at the pool. Not to worry, though, because our first day we didn't get anywhere near the pool. We spent all day changing rooms. The first room had an overpowering stench of mold and mildew. We changed rooms and the next one was much worse, with large black patches of mold on the ceilngs. A serious health hazard. I have allergies and was terribly congested from it. The tour reps were less than helpful and we eventually had to bribe a staff member to get us a room without mold. Our second major issue was not resolved and so we changed hotels. We called the agent and the hotel before we booked to confirm whether they had suitable food for strict vegetarians (no eggs or dairy or meat). They assured us no problem, and if there wasn't anything in the buffet then they'd make us special meals. This was not the case when we arrived. The hotel manager "Oliver" rudely told us that he had been requested by the tour company, but they were "too busy", so it was too bad. We spent over $3000 on this trip on the promise of 5 star food and service. I don't know how they can rate this establishment as 5 stars... 5 McDonalds stars, maybe. Vegans/vegetarians beware - the food here full of animal products and trying to explain any allergies or preferences to staff is pointless - they either don't speak english or don't understand or don't care - in some cases, all three! The plates, glassware and cutlery were all greasy and speckled. It seems they have some serious issues with their dishwashers. The hotel in general is very dirty - smudges and dirt on all of the surfaces, with the exception of the floors, which were kept very clean. It looks as though they ran out of money towards the end of the project. Some materials in the communal areas are beautiful, but in other areas of the hotel corners were seriously cut, resulting in major health hazards, ranging from mold in the rooms to rickety stair railings, literally falling off into the stairwells. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone except my enemies. We changed and went to the Barcelo just down the road and the difference was like night and day. At least the second half of our holiday was enjoyable.
