Grand Sirenis - what a dump!

I arrived at the hotel on 24/12/06 for a week's holiday and lasted 3 days. The hotel is having some serious teething problems.
There are very few english speaking front line staff and those you can get a hold of are rushed off their feet dealing with other customers' complaints.
I checked in and was not given any towel tokens, which is a problem at the pool. Not to worry, though, because our first day we didn't get anywhere near the pool. We spent all day changing rooms. The first room had an overpowering stench of mold and mildew. We changed rooms and the next one was much worse, with large black patches of mold on the ceilngs. A serious health hazard. I have allergies and was terribly congested from it. The tour reps were less than helpful and we eventually had to bribe a staff member to get us a room without mold.
Our second major issue was not resolved and so we changed hotels. We called the agent and the hotel before we booked to confirm whether they had suitable food for strict vegetarians (no eggs or dairy or meat). They assured us no problem, and if there wasn't anything in the buffet then they'd make us special meals. This was not the case when we arrived. The hotel manager "Oliver" rudely told us that he had been requested by the tour company, but they were "too busy", so it was too bad. We spent over $3000 on this trip on the promise of 5 star food and service. I don't know how they can rate this establishment as 5 stars... 5 McDonalds stars, maybe.
Vegans/vegetarians beware - the food here full of animal products and trying to explain any allergies or preferences to staff is pointless - they either don't speak english or don't understand or don't care - in some cases, all three!
The plates, glassware and cutlery were all greasy and speckled. It seems they have some serious issues with their dishwashers. The hotel in general is very dirty - smudges and dirt on all of the surfaces, with the exception of the floors, which were kept very clean.
It looks as though they ran out of money towards the end of the project. Some materials in the communal areas are beautiful, but in other areas of the hotel corners were seriously cut, resulting in major health hazards, ranging from mold in the rooms to rickety stair railings, literally falling off into the stairwells.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone except my enemies.
We changed and went to the Barcelo just down the road and the difference was like night and day. At least the second half of our holiday was enjoyable.
