Esalen is not a hotel or tourist destination. One goes to Esalen to take workshops. Reservations are a must.
The accommodations are regular and vary according to availability and price. The view from every room is incredible. During every moment on property I could hear the ocean. I was surrounded by breath taking nature. I felt truly welcome by the staff and other guests, who seemed as genuinely grateful to be there as I was.
My schedule was busy with meals, workshops, massages (the best massages), and time in the hot tubs making the experience of the room secondary.
Esalen is a great taste of communal living. You will learn a lot about life and yourself by being there. Must eat a lot, bathe a lot, and get a lot of massages!!! AND breathe in the clean, delicious air!!!
Consider participating in the ride-share program as a way to make friends and have less cars on the Pacific Coast Highway. Everything you need is more than likely on-site at Esalen.
