Von Minden Hotel, Schulenburg

There was a group of friends staying here. First of all, it was filthy! Not just a little dirty. Filthy! However, the bedding was clean and the floors inside the rooms were nice. That's as far as it went. True, it's old and I could have lived with that. There is a small sign with a name and phone number on it to call for check in. That person is only awake from noon to 3, 4, 5am. So good luck. We paid for 2 nights against my better judgement. We were asleep and at 1:30 and 3 am there were several knocks on the door. We were told on check in to lock the door because the lobby isn't locked and curiosity visitors wander in. We didn't know who was at the door so ignored it. At 4am the manager burst through our door demanding "rent"!!!!! He refused to leave the room. We called the police and they helped us to get out of the hotel. It was terrifying. Unsafe and Unclean. The manager was clearly under the influence of ?????. We could smell alcohol but he was behaving so bizarre. Is there a negative star rating. This hotel needs to have their license revoked!

I had 6 rooms rented for a Saturday night when old friends came to visit and I suggested to say here since I like old buildings. It turned out to be a nightmare alright, but the wrong kind. There were drunks on the top floor partying till the wee hours, rooms were more expensive than stated on website. The showers were filthy, the beds un sleepable and the male desk clerk let himself in at 4am to a room with two ladies in it. He was drunk and demanding money, they had paid in advance and were refused a receipt. Criminal charges are being considered.

We were impressed with the hotel, but the employee that stays there was a big hassle. Micheal is his name, and he was drunk and high pretty much the whole time giving us a bunch of problems while we were ghost hunting. The place is a little dirty but it adds to the experience when visting a haunted hotel. The place itself was really neat, we just would have had more fun if the people who were there during our stay would have been sober and would have not giving us problems. We also had them call us numerous times after we left stating we had broken a window, which we did not do. If it wasnt so cheap to stay I would have asked for my money back. We did catch orbs on camera and film, and had doors open and shut without explanation.

The Hotel is scary that's for sure. The people that work there and hang out there are the weekends are very nice. We heard strange noises when we were in our room during the day. I definitely had to drink a few beers before I went to bed just to calm my nerves down. We walked all over the Hotel and movie theater and took lots of pictures and we also took some videos. After we left and got back home to Baytown, we were looking at the pictures on the computer that we took and there is a picture of me sitting in one of the seats in the empty theater with 2 orbs floating in the background! We couldn't see it on the camera but you can see it on the computer. That was CREEPY! But all in all we had fun and want to back!

This was an experience we will never forget. It was something you would see in the movies. We are planning another trip back soon, loved the place, during the day we thought not a big deal this place is a little creepy but it's all good. At night was a different story, it was SCARY. We had a great time though did not get much sleep but you don't plan for much sleep when you visit a haunted hotel. I recomment this to anyone who is looking a good scare. The price for the night is unbeatable as well. Can not wait to go back!

We stayed there 8/7/10. This place is awesome, very authentic but a little dirty. If you have a fear of spider webs and dirty bathrooms please BEWARE! Overall this is something you would see in the movies, although we didnt encounter any real ghost (that we know of) the place itself is creepy enough! We will be returning next month for my sons 15th birthday with a few of his friends, this should be interesting! Love love this place!

my son and 3 grandchildren and i had been wanting to stay here at the von minden hotel. We had a great time, the rate was reasonable and the ghost hunting fun. the attached pizza parlor had the best pizzas ever and the movie theater had the latest Harry Potter. the bathrooms could have used a little scrub down but were better than most in chain motels. the ambience and location were perfect for what were were lokking for. we will stay again.
