The Elmwood Village Inn: Honu House, Buffalo

I gotta say this hotel really was great! P.S. if you use SweetHotelDeals. Net for booking this hotel they usually have some pretty good hotel deals at this time of the year!

We were guests for 3 nights in Karen Powell's B&B in early August . She provided a memorable stay in Buffalo to my visitors (a couple from Brussels, Belgium) and me (senior from Alexandria, VA - a world traveler) . I hasten to write this recommendation, because our stay was truly unforgettable. Our rooms felt like the kind of bedroom with private bath/shower you couldn't get in a 4 star hotel. Every detail, in perfect running condition, bottled water covering entire stay, beautiful bed and bathroom linens, radio with info on local AM/FM dial locations, etc. Wonderful coffee (or herbal tea) ready at 8 AM, accompanied with home-made healthy pastry, good company at breakfast table with other guests mostly highly cultivated. There was pamphlet info of current and ongoing cultural activities in Buffalo, along with ecologically friendly shopping bags which guests had available for use. What an impressive introduction to the American "way of life" for my Belgian friends! We were within walking distance of the Albright Knox Museum and the new Burchfield Penney Art Center (modern art). Not far from BufState U too, and the wonderful Park where nightly there were free performances of Shakespear plays. There was a wide choice of excellent Elmwood Avenue restaurants, some very reasonable and lst class Menus. All this contributes to the myth that "Buffalo is the best kept secret". Don't miss it!

Karen (owner) is an absolute gem!! Rare and unique indeed. I would only be so lucky to have another opportunity to be able to visit the B & B again. The rooms are very spacious and the decor is done in perfection. I don't understand why anyone would have to take cabs to get breakfast...the Elmwood area is loaded with restaurants, cafes and shops. Uuuum & what's better pastries made from scratch or prefabricated breakfast made w/ crap and no love? The area can be a little noisey at night. I think just a few college kids that had too many and I noticed right away the Buffalo Police are on top of it!!! Support your local and independent business owners.

My boyfriend and I spent a fantastic long weekend at the Honu House while attending a wedding in Buffalo. Our room was beautiful, spacious and decorated to make you feel that you were staying in a home...not a generic hotel. Our bathroom was splendid--clean, luxurious with both a tub and separate shower! Karen provides guests with a a little kitchenette of their own to share with other guests as well as a lovely morning breakfast. Karen is a great host and directed us to great eating and tourist spots within walking distance. We felt like we were staying with a family friend rather than a stranger. I would absolutely go back if Buffalo weren't so far!

stayed with karen in 2006 the house was really nice,but very noisey outside,we went for bed and breakfast but we didnt get breakfast there was cakes on the table wich she baked herself,when asked about breakfast she said she would cook it at price ?didnt bother walked down too the town instead.had too get cabs every were there was no busses.but loved buffalo if i went again i would stay in a hotel sorry ! but you would get more for yor money.

The Elmwood Village Inn: Honu House was the perfect place to stay for our visit to Buffalo. My husband and I had a relaxing time in the house, and enjoyed the comfort of the mattress and luxury bath after our long days of celebrating our friends' wedding. It is located in the heart of the Elmwood Village, and my parents had a fabulous time meandering through the local shops and tasting the Buffalo flavors in the neighborhood. The owner of Honu house, Karen, was a wonderful hostess, and we all had a wonderful time chatting with her over a delicious breakfast each morning. She made us feel welcome the moment we entered the door. The furniture in the House was so comfortable, we purchased the same chair that is in her sitting room. We highly recommend the Honu House for your stay in Buffalo, and we will definitely return for all of our stays in the area.
